We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilee Dose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
One of the most rewarding things about getting to know so many entrepreneurs and creatives is seeing first-hand how many of them are focused on so much more than just financial results. So many of the folks we connect with are focused on having a positive social impact on their community or the world at large. Can you talk to us about how you are helping the community?
Dose Moving and Storage created a 501(c)3 called Dose of Hope. Every quarter our employees fill bags called “Paddy’s Purse” for Dose of Hope and we spend an entire day canvassing the city and handing out the bags. The most important aspect of the bags is the resources that are inside the bag. The homeless population can get, free health care, free dental, free vision, free cell phone and free food. They also have access to transition off of the street to CASS (Central Arizona Shelter Services). Once they have a bed at CASS, we work with them to transition them into employment and housing by working with Furnishing Dignity to provide them a stable environment. To date we have passed out over 6,000 bags. CASS provides 800 beds per night. And 600 homeless and families have been placed in permanent housing. We help pick up and deliver the furniture items that are necessary to furnish the residences. Many people it is their first time of owning their own bed. Together we can make a difference and change the world.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We moved here from Oklahoma in 2013. We were so excited about a new job and living in Arizona. When we arrived we found out that the dealership had sold and Patrick was without a job. Being 50 years old and homeless seemed daunting at the time. It was at that time that we decided to start Dose Moving. In the beginning we delivered furniture for consignment stores and moved our way up to moving homes and offices. It was extremely difficult to break into an industry run by the good old boys club. We changed everything about the moving industry from the pricing to the hiring. There were many bumps along the way that made us what we are today. No one would lease a truck in the beginning but with constant phone calls we were given a chance and we never looked back. We want the world to know that our moving company is different! Our brand and image is all about doing the right thing when no one is looking. We hire the finest and we pay our guys what they deserve to be paid! We love our employees and value them! Without them we would not be where we are today!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow great question! I would take my friend to the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Lake Mead and Lake Powell and Lake Havasu to see the London Bridge. I would take them to Sedona and Jerome eating at all of the best restaurants along the way and taking in all of the beauty that Arizona is! I’d make sure they get a turquoise ring and cowboy hat to take home to remember the trip!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my husband Patrick Dose who has stood by my side and made our efforts of giving a reality. He works tirelessly helping and giving of his time and talent.
