We had the good fortune of connecting with Marina Roloff DNP, FNP-C and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marina, how do you think about risk?
Growing up I was risk adverse. This was instilled in me at a very young age by my parents, specifically my father. I was the quiet, reserved, rule follower who always played it safe. To top it off I had a type A personality, and I was a perfectionist. These qualities resulted in fear of change or risk. I am very methodical, logical, organized, and ambitious which yields very cautious decision making achieved through my personal experiences and knowledge. I graduated with a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a 4.0 GPA and started working as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I am very passionate about my profession and my patients; however, during my employment I eventually realized I did not have the autonomy or the authority to provide the quality of care my patient’s deserved. During this time, my family also suffered the unimaginable loss of my dad, my first love, my rock, and now the light illuminating my path forward. Reflection throughout this journey helped me realize life is too short to be anything but happy. This was my opportunity to take the biggest risk of my life. With the support of my husband, I resigned from my stable salary job to follow my lifelong dream of opening my own business. This risk has allowed me to place priority on the things that are truly important to me, my family, my mental/physical health, and my overall wellbeing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have spent the last decade in the healthcare field. I started out as an inpatient registered nurse on a medical surgical floor specializing in stroke patients. Most of my time was spent in direct patient care refining my assessment skills and collaborating with other members of the interdisciplinary team. I promoted to a resource coordinator in a supervisory role. I was highly motivated and knew I wanted to further my career. My passion was in providing preventive medicine with the goal of keeping people healthy and out of the hospital. I received my Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University in 2016 and started working part time as a Family Nurse Practitioner while I completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2017. I spent the last 6 years in family medicine dedicating everything I had to caring for my patients and providing them with the best care possible. I eventually realized I did not have the autonomy or the authority to provide the quality of care my patient’s deserved within that infrastructure. It was a very difficult decision to leave primary care because I deeply cared for each one of my patients; however, I knew in my heart this was the right choice for me and my family.

I truly have a passion for providing holistic preventative healthcare. With this in mind, I decided to follow my lifelong dream and start my own business, Enhance Aesthetics & Wellness. I am the Medical Director and co-owner of this medical spa with my husband Casey. I have spent countless hours training to bring the latest research and technology to provide the highest quality care in aesthetic and wellness treatments. I devote the majority of my time and energy into building my business and brand in preparation for our grand opening in the spring of 2023. My vision is to enhance every aspect of your life including mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. My holistic approach aims to empower you to become the best version of yourself, inspire confidence, and promote health through a luxurious individualized client experience. I am beyond excited for this new endeavor and to serve our community in a new light.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places in Yuma are locally owned. Chile Pepper or Mr. G’s Drive-In is a staple in Yuma, Arizona. It has been in Yuma since the 1950s and to this day is still family owned and operated by the Gutierrez family. This is always a must stop when anyone is visiting or returns to their hometown of Yuma. The Garden Café is a charming outdoor garden restaurant surrounded by birds and is open seasonally. I look forward to their opening every October and enjoy their homemade tortilla soup. Lute’s Casino is another essential stop when visiting Yuma with a family fun environment. Cafecito is a family owned and operated local coffee shop with a motto “Loyal to the Soil”. They have a great eclectic vintage vibe. Several of my other favorite restaurants are River City Grill, Da Boyz Italian Cuisine, Prison Hill, El Charro, and Baja Viches. Red’s Birdcage is a small, dark, and cozy bar located in downtown Yuma. My husband and I had our first date at this bar. We enjoy sitting at the bar having a drink or playing a competitive game of darts. Yuma is located on the southwest border of Arizona and along the Colorado River. Tubing down the Colorado River, playing volleyball, or just relaxing on the beach is enjoyable. The Yuma Territorial Prison is a historical site that would be a worthwhile visit. The majority of these places are located in Downtown Yuma, and I can’t wait to be a part of this community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been instrumental in my life and success. My parents have always been my biggest fans and greatest support system. They raised my sister and I in a loving, supportive environment that nurtured our ambition and allowed us to follow our dreams. My sister, Margie, has also been influential along my journey. We are 13 months apart and best friends. She has always been there for me personally and professionally. Our highly competitive nature helped energize each other and push limits we didn’t know were possible.

I am married to an amazing man, Casey Roloff who is very supportive and is a co-owner of Enhance Aesthetics and Wellness. Casey has dedicated his life providing for our country as a law enforcement professional. In addition to his 50-hour work weeks, he spent the last 5+ years investing in real estate and managing our properties. His accomplishments in real estate have forwarded us the opportunity to purchase a property in my dream location, undergo renovations, and ultimately enable my dream to become a reality. His love, support, encouragement, and presence in my life is unparalleled. We are parents to our 6-year-old son Jace Emran who is wildly energetic, smart, independent, loving, and stubborn. He may not know this yet, but he is one of my biggest motivators and drives me to be the best in all aspects of my life.

I can’t thank my family enough for all their love and support along this journey. I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today without them.
