We had the good fortune of connecting with Mario Valencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mario, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My decision to start my own business was rooted in the concept of embracing risk – a risk I chose to take on myself. This step was driven by the understanding that without making a proactive change, life would remain static. It was a leap of faith, trusting in my abilities to navigate challenges and uncertainties. The core idea was to invest in myself for a better future. I believe that ‘the time is always now’ to give myself a chance, to seek more, and to step out of my comfort zone. This venture is more than just a business; it’s a journey toward personal and professional growth.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2022, my partner and I acquired two Robeks juice stores, which we opened in 2023. Our decision stemmed from personal experience; as customers, we were drawn to Robeks for its health-focused offerings like fresh smoothies and juices, particularly the lemon ginger shot. My health transformation, losing 55 lbs. by incorporating Robeks into my diet, was a significant motivator.
Business-wise, I was first inspired by my parents, who successfully ran a Mexican restaurant despite having no prior experience. Post-military, my friend Richard played a crucial role in sharpening my business acumen.
The journey hasn’t been easy. It involved years of learning and overcoming mistakes. I realized success depended on my ability to apply these lessons and manage challenges effectively. My approach to challenges is threefold: recognizing they are not personal attacks, focusing solely on solutions, and expecting positive outcomes.
The key lesson from my journey is the power of a positive mindset and solution-oriented approach. Our brand’s story aligns with offering healthier options, promoting self-care, and contributing to overall happiness and well-being.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend visited Arizona for a week, I’d start with a trip to the First Friday Art Walk in the Roosevelt Row Arts District, an epicenter of creativity and culture. For dining, we’d enjoy the flavors of Harumi Sushi, Clever Koi, and Forno 301, each offering a unique culinary experience. A visit to the stunning landscapes of Sedona would be a must for its breathtaking views and serene ambiance. Relaxing near Tempe Town Lake would offer a chance to enjoy the outdoors and vibrant local scene. Throughout the week, I’d introduce my friend to the amazing people I’ve met here, showcasing the warm and diverse community of Arizona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to extend a heartfelt shoutout to my partner Randy, my parents, my manager Gary, and to everyone who has crossed my path. Randy’s belief in me and his investment in our brand has been fundamental to my success. My parents have been the bedrock of emotional and mental support throughout this journey, providing unwavering encouragement. Gary’s exceptional work ethic, his kind nature, and the support he extends to my teams are invaluable. The collective impact of each of these individuals, along with the varied influences of everyone I’ve met, has shaped my journey and brought me to where I am today.
