Meet Marisa Hernandez | Actress, Author, Producer, & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisa Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I think my thought process came from a confidence stand point. I knew this is what I always wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I never really liked working for someone else. Starting my business was going to be hard work but I was ready for the challenge. When I started there really wasn’t another opinion, because I saw it as if it doesn’t work out, at least I know I tried.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I didn’t know this was going to be the path that I was meant to be on, but back in 2016, I was going to college at The University of San Antonio and was studying Marketing while getting my real estate license. I was scouted in a mall by an agent asking “If I ever thought about modeling”. When I decided to learn more, they told me there was going to be a competition in Houston, Texas. I went to the competition at the end of July 2016. Doing that competition gave me the opportunity to win a scholarship to go to The New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. I literally couldn’t believe it but it turned my life around because I had to give them an answer in a week and head out the following week after that.
All of the emotions that I was feeling at that time, I still can’t even find the words. A little back story about me is I’ve always been a competitor. If I don’t know how to do something I will figure it out. Just like the saying goes; “fake it till I make it.” And that’s what I did. So I packed up my whole life from San Antonio, Texas and moved to the big apple. I guess you can say that it’s worked out because eight years later, I’m still here.
That’s how it all started for me. Since growing here in New York, it has helped me branch out to more acting opportunities. In the summer of 2018, I made my debut as a producer in The Most Massive Woman Wins and acted as one of the main characters. It sold out both nights! Something that I’m extremely proud of.
In 2021, I acted in a short film called Gloria Steinberg and was in an Indie film called Empty Paradise that is now on Tubi, During that time I wanted to focus more on social media, I started my business in promoting haircare products online. This helped me go into content creation and learn about social media marketing and also help me make money online, This showed me how much I love the beauty business and this is another opportunity to network.
None of this was easy, there was a lot of tears, a lot of doubt but I kept pushing and continue to keep pushing to this very day. The only way you’re going to live your life the way you want is by not caring what other people think. It’s hard trying to keep up but I feel if you are being your authentic self then everything else will align and you are going to find your way.
I think what sets me apart is the fact that I go with my gut on a lot of things. If I have a bad feeling, I try something else or if I really want to do something… I will do it. No one is stopping me or getting in my way because I will work hard to get where I want to be in life.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is I’m always myself. There’s no faking. I’m just me and will continue to be me because I feel that’s what’s going to get you places. People can spot when you’re not genuine and who wants to work with people that are not genuine or always expecting something out of you,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city… there’s a lot of places but till this day I still love being a tourist in my city. Of course, you have to walk Central Park. I also love just grabbing a quick iced latte and walking around Soho. Don’t be surprised but those little coffee spots at the corner are very good! My favorite brunch sport is Cafe Cluny. The food is so good there and I’m a major fan, The night life, I would do Jean’s night club, Little Sister, and the Jimmy’s roof top. The best pizza I recommend, Pizza Loves Emily, Vezzo and Ruby Rosa in Little Italy. Those are such classics and have been a major fan since I moved to city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is the one that’s always has been there for me. Whenever I have an idea, they are always 100% behind me even if I fail. That is truly something that I admire about them.
