We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Gruszynski, M.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Undergoing plastic surgery is often a life-changing experience, and I believe that experience extends far beyond the day of surgery. Starting my own business afforded me the opportunity to curate the entire journey for patients, from their first correspondence with my office to their long-term follow-up. I also studied finance & accounting at the Goizueta Business School at Emory, and I’ve always been interested in the challenges and rewards of business development & growth.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My training at UCLA and in Beverly Hills exposed me to the gold standard in plastic surgery. When I moved to Scottsdale in 2020, I saw a huge opportunity to improve the plastic surgery experience by creating a true concierge practice. From a patient’s first phone call, they’ll notice we never use an answering service; they will always reach a staff member or me directly. Patients in our office are greeted warmly and have the option for a private waiting room if they desire additional discretion. We also offer pre- and post-operative supportive care right in our office including medicated IV hydration, lymphatic massage, in-home care, and a full complement on aesthetic services including laser & hydrafacial.

Starting the practice wasn’t easy, but was facilitated by my practice manager Suzanne, whose 30 years working as an RN in both clinical and administrative settings helped me to overcome the logistical challenges of practice startup. Another barrier to opening a solo practice is the tremendous capital outlay. Fortunately, by working in a private practice setting prior to starting my own practice and planning for this well in advance, I was able to undertake this project relatively early in my career.

I’d like people to know that our office is completely dedicated to delivering the finest plastic surgery experience offered anywhere. Personally, I bring elite training that is new to the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. More importantly, I am wholly focused on patient expectations, such that I will never offer or perform a surgery that I don’t believe the patient will be 100% satisfied with. Likewise, my staff go above and beyond in their care for my patients, including 24/7 availability, home visits, and genuine compassion for the patient and their family.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost, Scottsdale is my home. I moved here a year and a half ago from Los Angeles, and I’ve been fortunate to make wonderful friends who within months of meeting invited me into their homes for holidays and family gatherings. I would certainly need my out-of-town friends to meet my new family here! Next, I’m a golf fanatic! I’d plan for us to play golf every day, including at my club Gainey Ranch, as well as some of the impressive desert courses up north. My friends and I also enjoy a good meal; we’d be sure to grab lunch on the patio at Chelsea’s Kitchen in Arcadia, and swing by Maple & Ash for a steak & wine night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I need to thank my parents, who supported me through my education and training in plastic surgery. Many people don’t realize that becoming a plastic surgeon requires 4 years of undergraduate education, 4 years of medical school, and at least six years of post-graduate surgical training. This puts most plastic surgeons in their mid-30’s by the time they’re ready to undertake their first independent role! I wouldn’t have been able to do it without my family’s encouragement.

I also owe a tremendous debt to my mentors at UCLA and in Beverly Hills, whose generosity with time and their surgery techniques was formative in making me the surgeon I am today.

Finally, I need to thank my office staff, Suzanne & Olivia, whose dedication to creating a superlative plastic surgery experience requires passion and often time long hours far beyond the end of the clinic day!
