Meet Marlin Sims | Pro Boxer & Truck Driver

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlin Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marlin, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
The most important thing is being in their lives, showing them unconditional love, and making them believe in themselves. I have two girls 13 and 3 years old I want them to have the same amount of self-love that I have for myself at the age of 29. With that kind of self-confidence, I know that they would be ready to take on the world we know today and the world we have yet to see. I always hear parents say they love the journey of their kids for me I am most excited to see the finished product.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a professional boxer representing Minneapolis, Minnesota. Let me tell you how I came into this new career field. Back in 2013, I moved to Georgia two years after graduating high school. Working as a valet attendant having fun making money and driving fancy cars. With all the spare time on my hand, I felt something was missing some activity something to get me moving. One day as I was relaxing watching tv and them . . . . What comes on BOXING! Floyd Mayweather vs Robert Guerrero all access just a few weeks before the actual fight. Singlehandedly that fight was the start of my getting into boxing. Time went by I ended up moving back to Minnesota but I came back with a drive and a new passion. I trained day in & day out homing my skills. Then the day finally came when my coach Alfonso Vasques said ” I think it’s time for you to get into the ring and take your 1st amateur fight.” I replied ” Yeah! I’m ready to do it!” 1st fight nervous like never before. I can recall I was nervous until the very first punch was thrown. Overcoming that feeling and getting my first boxing victory by TKO was the start of a new future for me. Ending my amateur boxing career a little over 2 years with a record of 38 wins and 9 losses becoming 2 times four state champion in 2016 & 2017 and the Chicago WBC champion in 2017. Now as a professional with a record or 8wins 1loss 4K.O wins claiming up the rankings becoming top 40 in the USA at 126lbs featherweight division. looking to get back in the ring within the next upcoming months to overturn that first loss and get back into that winning collum.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I didn’t grow up playing sports my hands down number one sport is Boxing. My other hobby is being outdoors and working on my primitive survivor skills. I’ve learned to hunt, build fire and make a shelter out of natural materials that are provided by the land we walk on.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest contributor to all of my success and wild dreams is my wife. Because she’s the one who holds the house down for the time I’m away whether I’m in the gym trying for my next fight or on the road traveling the country and making money to put us in a better position.
