We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Koslovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started gaining an interest in photography about 13 years ago on my 5th grade field trip to the Grand Canyon. I had a Kodak disposable camera and loved capturing and documenting everything. A few years after that, I was touring Taliesin West (former home of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright) when some other tourists commented on the angles I was capturing. That moment is what sticks with me as the true moment when I decided to pursue photography. Over the years, I began researching and teaching myself photography. The ins and outs on how to improve my craft. In 2015 I bought my first camera. 2016 I put a name to my work: Koslovich Photography. That year is also when I started building my professional portfolio on my Instagram. One of the key aspects that you’ll notice about my work is that none of it is photoshopped. I keep my adjustments and edits to a minimum. Doing this keeps my work as natural as possible and best showcases the TRUE beauty that I see in our world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start in Northern Arizona at the Grand Canyon. Beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. From there would be a southward trip to Flagstaff. Some notable food spots would be Diablo Burger and Steep Leaf Lounge. Sedona would be the next spot on the list. The signature red rocks make for a perfect backdrop while we eat at one of the local restaurants. After that we would drive back towards Phoenix. About 20 minutes due North of Phoenix is Black Canyon City. Just south of that immediately off of the I-17 is Rock Springs Cafe. They serve some of the best pies around. The Heard Museum of Native Cultures and Art is a must see as well as the Musical Instruments Museum. Some other spots to showcase would be Taliesin West, Mill Avenue, and Westgate Entertainment District.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my “shoutout” to my family, but more specifically my parents. While this might seem somewhat “cliché”, they are the ones who have always pushed me to achieve more and be better than I was yesterday. They’ve stuck with me through the rough times, and have been the first to congratulate me when the successes happen. If it wasn’t for their love and endless support, I’m not sure where I would be today.
