We had the good fortune of connecting with Ma’yet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The biggest reason I am here today is thanks to a wonderful human named Amy. She is the one who guided toward my first camera and lens purchase.

This all started in 2020 during the pandemic as a teacher struggling to help students feel connected. I began my taking and sharing time-lapse videos of sunrises captured on a cell phone.

As I would sit there reading, I wished I had a camera to capture the other beautiful things I was seeing. So, I reached out to Amy, purchased my first camera & lens, and began taking photographs.

As for my logo, a former student of mine designed that and my company name was also created by a student as well via a contest.

Additionally and until recently, I have never taken a photography class or course in my life and I have learned certain aspects of photography via trial, error, frustration, and then watching countless hours of Youtube videos and tutorials to understand the errors and correct them.

Personally, life has not been easy, but it has taught me a lot about resilience and it is those life lessons that I use daily to keep me motivated, optimistic, resilient, and enthusiastic.

No matter what happens to me in life, I always ask myself the following questions: “What did you learn from this experience? How can you use those life lessons to help you grow personally and professionally?”

One of the many mantras I live by is, I do not see the glass as half-full or half-empty, instead I see the glass as refillable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This depends on their fitness level. Granted, I am not an elite athlete by any means, but I do know how to get those miles in.

There would be daily early morning hikes to watch sunrises from the clearest peak possible.

After sunset, time to head back into town, grab some coffee, maybe a brunch, breakfast tacos and then spend
midday recouping, napping, and preparing for nightly stargazing and photography.

I do not spend a lot of time eating out or indoors.

I am the kind of person that when my eyes open, I am awake (blessing and curse), so I am constantly doing something, driving somewhere, hiking, or keeping busy.

My only “down-time” is when I am editing photos, because that requires a significant amount of focus.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am fortunate enough to have a small, but lovely group of humans that make up my Ohana. These people have seen me at my lowest and never once failed to lend a hand and lift me up.

I fear listing them by name, because I do not wish to miss anyone, but I am going to anyways: Amelia, Amie, Amy, Adrian, Bella, Bonnie, Charlie, Cindy, Douglas, Emily, Evan, Greg Lillian, Michael, Shannon, Steve, Tessa just to name a few.

Thank You to all of you for supporting – laughing – crying – and looking at the thousands of pictures I send you and giving me your honest opinion.
