We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Jenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meg, how do you think about risk?
When I hear the word risk, the next thing my brain automatically jumps to is reward. I think that we make the mistake of thinking about risk in terms of big decisions and not seeing it at play as much in the small decisions. Small things can be risky too! I try to remember that both in my art and in my life in general day-to-day as I take baby steps toward my dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Though I have a full time position as a Marketing Director, at the core I consider myself a designer and creative. My “tagline” if you will is that I am a “Triple Threat Graphic Designer, Artist and Multi-Media Creative” which is just to say I am wide-ranging in my interests and pursuits. I have a bold voice accompanied with a versatility in what I do, which allows me to bring both play and professionalism to the table in creative projects.

My top passion is image-making, specifically collage, illustration and graphic design. In this space I am able to combine my love for analog art and merge it with my digital skillset. I love the freedom that comes with doing it and I actually believe that my more regimented full time role pushes me into more creative spaces outside of the 9-5 where I can explore my art with less rules and fewer strings attached.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because I live in Minnesota – Land of 10,000 Lakes DONTCHYAKNOW – by principal I would have to take them to a lake during the summertime. Even better would be a day-trip to Duluth to see Lake Superior to hike, visit Canal Parks shops and restaurants and explore the shores for agates.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh boy, this feels like it could become a big list (lol). An easy “first and foremost” would be my family and friends. Special shoutout to my fiance who has continued to stick with me and be a huge support while I navigate my 20’s and always provides a warm and happy space for me. Can’t wait to marry you!!!

I also have to shout-out my design mentor, Hannah Edwards, who was previously my favorite college professor but is someone now I consider a friend. She has worked closely with me on a wide range of portfolio/passion projects through her business, Greater Than Courses, LLC, and has helped challenge me and keep my design fire alive.

Lastly, a shoutout to other creatives in general – both big and small – keep doing what you’re doing!
