We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Duffy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
My path is my own; my voice and creativity are one of a kind. The desire to be creative has never seemed like a choice. It has always felt like a gift. You can spend your life learning so many things within the world. You can adapt to technology and learn new skills but that act of creating and thinking outside the box or in the gray area is so powerful. I think its the one skill AI will never truly master. It requires humanity, soul, and emotion.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always loved the beauty of place. I was a commercial interior designer for 20 years and spent much of that time developing the “eye” for how space looks, feels, and functions. However, upon the birth of my daughter, I started to recognize that space is so much more about the people, and the last 6 years have really been a shift from the beauty of place to the beauty of people.

It has not been the easiest transition and like most change it has come with its own challenges, surprises and amazing rewards. All experiences build on one another. I have learned some tough business lessons that I am able to carry with me in my new artistic endeavors. Best of all, I now worry less about my business side ( because of my experience) and more about my creative expansion.

I love capturing the beauty of life in black and white. The desert is its own special place; We are so lucky to be surround by grand nature. There is a reward in capturing the smile of child, a sweet family animal, or a headshot for a new business endeavor. I love that my project timelines are weeks instead of years.

Capturing moments of life, love, and business can be challenging for a variety of reasons: the stress of organizing, the fear of how you look and feel, or the lack of time. There will always be an excuse. My goal is to make the process easy! Photographs are memories and I would rather you have too many memories than not enough,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start the day at the Montelucia Joya Spa for a little relaxation. For dinner and the best martinis, we would head over to AZ88. Next morning, we grab a chai latte at Press Coffee and take a day trip to Sedona and do a bit of hiking and grab dinner at Elote Cafe. Once back in Phoenix, over the course of few days we would check out Taliesin West. Eat at La Grande Orange, Chealsea’s Kitchen, Postinos & and watch the sunset while enjoying drinks at the Elements Bar at the Sanctuary. Do a little shopping at the Quarter & Kierland and sit by the pool at the Hyatt Regency.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many amazing people in different periods of my life who have been influential. Currently, I could not do without my sister, Shelby Guddeck with AZ Cookie Collective, and my best friend, Alicia Neal with Beauty By Alicia & Brow Skeleton. Both women, are successful in their own right and I could not be luckier to have these women in my court. We bounce business ideas off one another on the daily. Best Cheerleaders!
