Meet michael wardian | International Ship Broker and Professional Marathon and Ultra Marathon Runner and Endurance Athlete

We had the good fortune of connecting with michael wardian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi michael, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that risk is in all parts of life and it has really impacted my life and career as I want to take risks and I enjoy taking risks but I am always cautious to have a back up plan and make sure that I minimize the risks as best I can.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am professional runner and I never expected to be a professional athlete but I always thought it would be awesome to do what you love and it worked out that companies valued my skills as an athlete and the feedback I can provide as someone on the sharp end of the field.
Becoming a professional athlete was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. It took years of training, excellence when given opportunities and dedication to my craft while overcoming the set backs that occur along the way.
I was told “no” hundreds of times but it only takes a few “yes” to get you started…
I think if you have a dream, put it out into the world and don’t be afraid to ask for help. No one gets there alone. We all need people to assist us in our journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Arlington, Virginia about 10K from Washington, DC and if I had a friend coming to stay for a week I would take them to the Potomac Heritage Trail for a hike, run. Then we would get some pizza at Andy’s Pizza, and some Thai Food, smoothies at SouthBlock and tacos at District Taco.
On Day 2, we would visit the National Mall and visit the Smithsonian Museums and stroll around Washington, DC…I would suggest going to visit the White House and Georgetown, Washington Monument.
on Day 3, we would visit Shenandoah National Park and drive along the parkway, popping in and out of the road to do some beautiful hikes and grab some food from a local restaurants out that way.
On Day 4, we would visit Rehoboth and Dewey Beach and if nice time of year enjoy the beach and go to Funland for some games and rides.
On Day 5, we would go back to Washington, DC area and check out the Wharf and maybe a play at Kennedy Center or show downtown or at Wolf Trap Park.
On Day 6, we would just hang out in Arlington, visit some parks and do some runs..if they were a runner.
On Day 7, back to airport and return to their place.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my family deserves the most credit for my success. My wife, Jennifer has always been one of the most supportive people in my life, she is there to pick me up when I fail and celebrate with me when I succeed. I also wouldn’t be the person I am without our boys, Pierce and Grant, they inspire me to show them that with hard work and dedication all things are possible. Besides that my parents, Vivienne and Dick Wardian and my brother-Matthew and sister-Mariele…also big shoutout to our vizslas Rosie and Bash.
