We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Leyva-Doherty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my career in the digital advertising space and found a lot of the industry to be a bit dark, both from advertisers as well as from businesses advertising. I believe in affecting positive change on a large scale through commerce, and believe marketers have a moral responsibility to lift up the businesses, and by proxy, the voices of good and honest people. When we do this, we can grow good and honest businesses, that you could feel comfortable telling your family to call. This is why I started the Wholistic Agency. I wanted a space where clients can know they will be given honest and transparent communication all along the way, quick implementation times with no run-around, and have everything fulfilled in-house, so there are never any surprises.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Wholistic Agency is a Digital Marketing Agency, specializing in Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Social Media Advertising and Management, and Graphic Design. We fulfill everything in-house and believe in open, honest and transparent communication throughout the process. We also believe in quick-startup times, so nobody will ever spend months being billed for coming up with ideas.
I am most proud of building a business based on the mission of affecting positive change on a large scale through commerce. I believe advertisers have a moral obligation to drive customers to businesses they know they could trust sending their family or children to. We seek to grow good businesses run by great people, and I’m proud to be able to build a company that is focused on ethics, honesty and transparency first, and feel there is a strong need for that in business and society at large.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think one of the best parts of living in Arizona is our access to nature and beautiful outside spaces. I would take my best friend to Picacho or Catalina State Park, as those are two of my favorite. We could either hike or do some yoga at Picacho and just enjoy all that Arizona nature has to offer. We would then get some Dutch Bros on the way home, because they are amazing. Stop by for some Bisbee Breakfast Club brunch, and definitely nap until dinner time. I would recommend either downtown for dinner, or head over to Union Public House in St. Philips Plaza. And if anyone is still feeling adventurous, star gazing at Starr Pass or Windy Point on Mt. Lemmon are also a must.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to Dr. Tacy Tuten, for being an amazing mentor and friend. Dr. Tuten was a huge inspiration for me throughout my time in university, and continues to be an inspiration, an advocate and a friend. I would also like to thank the people who have been mentors to me throughout my career – Kari Jacobs, Mike Askew and Trish Turner. Thank you all for being such great mentors and friends throughout my career. You have all taught me so much and for that, I am forever thankful. And last but not least, I would like to thank my husband and business partner, Frankie Leyva-Doherty, for encouraging and inspiring me to keep going, keep building and keep being creative.
