We had the good fortune of connecting with Mirna Tomsic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mirna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been passionate about providing a helping hand to those in need. This passion was planted at an early age by my mother. Even though we did not have much, she always managed to give to others.

In my late thirty’s, I was asked to oversee the Buckeye St. Vincent de Paul Conference where I learned the needs in the community as well as treating people with dignity and compassion. I was fortunate enough to be able to oversee this conference for 10 years. During this time, I was able to partner with different business and organizations to make a bigger impact with Thanksgiving and Christmas Drive. Because of the involvement and awareness of the communities in Buckeye and surrounding areas, I was offered a job at the Palo Verde Generating Station Community Outreach Department.

I learned during the time working as a community outreach representative that the only organizations we could donate was the ones that had nonprofit status from the IRS.

In 2015 I retired from my job after 35 years of service and filed for my nonprofit status for MIrna’s Place and received in 2016. Today, I am so grateful that through this private nonprofit organization I am able to give back to the needs in my community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In 2016, I was awarded my private nonprofit number by the IRS for Mirna’s Place. Mirna’s Place mission statement is: “Seeing the Need…Taking the Lead…

In 2016, a group of six women started meeting on a weekly basis to encourage each other and build a community of support. We decided as a group to start an adopted family program for Christmas. To our surprise we discovered that giving back to the needs of the community was the best encouragement any one of us could receive and the best community support we could offer each other. These six women were the inspiration of what MIrna’s Place is now!

In 2021, one of the Amazon warehouses in Goodyear, Arizona started donating pallets of miscellaneous donations. To date there are four Amazon warehouse that donating to Mirna’s Place.

Because of the large amount of donations being received to date, we started to seek organizations to partner with us that address the greatest needs of the community. We have established a partnership with over 70 organizations.

Mirna’s Place also provide several Community Outreach Programs such as: Police Officers Care Packages, Emergency Food Boxes, Firefighters Laundry & Cleaning Supplies Program, Military Care Packages, Teachers Support Kits,
Helping Hand Programs – donations for fundraisers, Native American Outreach, Holiday Food Boxes, Adopt a Senior for Christmas and Toy Program.

Mirna’s Place also offers to the community a mentoring program to help others find their passion and help them take the lead by providing support, materials and the resources to be successful.

Mirna’s Place has established a partnerships and collaboration between nonprofits to achieve greater impact in the community.

Mirna’s Place partners with businesses to source needed goods and distribute them through their network of diverse nonprofits, supporting people in need and opening opportunity for all.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the persons that I would like to show the best time ever is my husband. I could not do what I do without his support. He loves the cowboy atmosphere. I would love to take him to a dude ranch so he can experience the roundup and gathering of cattle, eat with the cowboys and be involved in their day to day events.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to the following people: 1. Dolores Sernas/my mother – planting the seed of giving at an early age and always being grateful for all that I am giving.
2. Rose Majors/my boss – for seeing my talents and mentoring me to walk in them.
3. St. Vincent de Paul for teaching how to treat the needy with dignity and compassion.
4. Deryl Tomsic/husband – his support and seeing the good in me.
