We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicci Silva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicci, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
DollyMoo was created from a place of love and healing. When feedback from friends and family was overwhelmingly positive after trying some of our products, we started small by selling DollyMoo at farmer’s markets and festivals. After a few years of hard work, affirmations, and manifestation, we were fortunate enough to open our brick-and-mortar in downtown Montclair, NJ. Since then, the shop and brand have flourished, building a solid, lively self-care community!

What should our readers know about your business?
Slow and steady for us. We started with a $900 investment and slowly built our brand. We were careful about our investments and didn’t go by the “we do it big” mentality, more by “we do it in baby steps.” This worked for us, considering our financial status when we started. I wouldn’t say it is easy, although a lot of it comes naturally to us; you must have a learn-as-you-go mentality when starting a business. It’s the first time you’re doing it! We troubleshoot and learn new things every day. When it comes to our brand, we want people to know DollyMoo products come from a place of healing and love and inspire us not only to make products to nourish your skin but your spirit as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow! Ok, this is fun! I’d show them around Montclair, NJ, first! We’d visit the DollyMoo shop and all the fantastic boutiques and creative shops in town. Stop by one of the many excellent coffee shops, have dinner in town, and grab a show at the Wellmont Theatre. One day, we’d visit NYC, go on a nature hike in New Jersey, spend time with family and friends, and end the week at a Korean Spa.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our Team! Also known as the Moo Crew! We have a small crew of dedicated, creative employees who keep DollyMoo thriving. We all share ideas, create collections together, and work hard, especially during collection launches. We support each other, inspire each other, and laugh a lot, keeping our work environment fun! We are truly grateful for all they do!
