We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Farr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe entrepreneurship is a risk in itself. I don’t like to take risks, I’d rather play it safe, so it’s interesting that I chose this route for my next career step. But in my case I see it as passion and purpose outshining the fear and the worry of risk. For both my personal and professional life, I believe some level of risk is necessary for growth. I’ve moved cities, and states all by myself and have felt really uncomfortable but I have always found personal growth on the other side. I have left “safe” jobs to pursue my passion, and I’ve discovered new skills and beliefs I never thought I’d achieve. So as much as I want to play it safe, I know that taking risks is the only way to level up.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
NickiFit A to Z began over 14 years ago when I personally recognized the mental health benefits of movement and exercise. In the midst of fear, worry, and uncertainty that came with a divorce, exercise helped me get up every day when depression and anxiety tried to keep me down, A commitment to movement in my life (running and hiking) helped me discover other forms of movement like strength training and then yoga for recovery. Moving more inspired me to make healthier food choices and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Within a few months I felt so strong, empowered, and a new level of confidence, I knew then I had to share this knowledge with more women, so NickiFit A to Z was born.
My coaching methods may look a little different than other personal trainers and fitness coached out there. I deeply believe in meeting each individual where they’re at in their health and wellness practices and educating them in mindful movement. I am certified by the American Council on Exercise as a personal trainer and health coach, and am a yoga instructor with over 200 hours training in yoga and breathwork. I take traditional fitness training methods and incorporate the mind-body-breath connection that yoga teaches to make fitness more approachable and sustainable. Being more aware, more mindful, when performing any format of exercise reduces pain, reduces instances of injury, and can help the client better relieve stress and anxiety.
I strive to create an inclusive, non-judgmental, compassionate space for clients to achieve their health and wellness goals.
It’s not easy growing a fitness business where the real transformations happen on the inside for my clients (the outer transformation is a happy side effect). In a world of social media with feeds filled with before and after transformation photos and influencers pushing tricks for quick fat burning results, it can be tough to stand out. But for any one that wants to make a true transformation, to feel just as strong and resilient on the inside as they do on the outside, mindful movement like I offer in my coaching is what will get them there.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the uniqueness of the Central Phoenix corridor and surrounding areas. There are so many great little shops and local restaurants. Luci’s at the Orchard is one of my favorite places to lunch and shop for gifts. Postino’s is also a favorite spot especially for afternoon happy hour, each location has it’s own special vibe.
In the spring and fall, the Desert Botanical Gardens hosts their dog days where you can take your dog with you as you walk the gardens, I love bringing my dog on adventures.
For a little bit of luxury and self-care, I love doing spa days, and no one does it better than the Scottsdale Princess, their Well & Being Spa is my favorite way to spend a spa day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know I wouldn’t be where I’m at today with out the support and encouragement from my family and friends. But it’s been my experience over the past year in a business coaching program specifically for health and fitness professionals called the Online Trainer Mentorship that has really given me the courage and inspiration to take new leaps in my business.. Over 700 other fitness coaches and health experts have been through this program and it has been inspiring to see other fitness professionals take themselves and their business to the next level. If they can do it, I can do it!
