We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Johnson-Hutchinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paula, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My success with my brand is having a clear message. The message of providing a collaborative safe space for women of color resonates and provokes interest. The message aligns us with diverse groups of women that seek out opportunities to work with us.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Believing in a concept is not easy. You don’t always understand what you’re doing , you just know that you need to start. The Stiletto Talks started in my salon. Women discussed their needs. I had an event center and started hosting events. Then I moved Arizona. The same thing occurred. I had my first event here, not knowing who was coming or what to expect. The brand took off again. The hardest things are funding, starting small, and believing in yourself. You must be ok with all of the possibilities before you begin.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them straight downtown. Roosevelt Row is filled with history and the most unique spots to eat or grab a glass of wine. The weather is always pretty , so there’s lots of music , pop-up shops , sports and more in a central location. One of my faves is Seasons 52. The vibe is cool and the drinks are awesome. Another fave spot is Chic Chef. More wine , vibes and you may even be able to paint.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shout out several women. In Louisiana, I must shout out Kim Knight and Tiffany Dickerson for believing and investing in my brand. In Arizona, I must shout out Commissioner Kim Dartez and Kaneka Trotter for the same.
