We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip Holton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phillip, why did you pursue a creative career?
The general concept of more mechanical jobs always terrified me. I am someone that has always craved new experiences and existing in an artistic world has allowed much of that to happen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music was born out of a moment in which I have listened to extensive amounts of music and started becoming bored of recycling the same records. Eventually, my combative solution became writing many songs in my spare time. During my freshmen year of college, I’d write here and there, often not enjoying the outcome but I kept at it and eventually was able to start writing things I thoroughly enjoyed. My music leaned towards being super instrumental and physical which left me wondering how I could take it out as a live project so I decided to ask a bunch of college buddies to join me in learning my crappy parts and somehow, it started gaining some good traction. I think people started noticing us primarily due to our obscure setup of eight humans and a crap ton of analog synths.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would personally enjoy taking a person through south Phoenix. Namely around south mountain. I feel like there is quite a bit of steady long-lasting culture plotted there and with that, some of the best Hispanic cuisine you can find anywhere in America. It may not be the most charming area on the outside but I think if more people gave it a chance, they’d find many endearing aspects to that area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my new manager Jeremiah Conley, the first man who has taken a chance on me and all my band’s artistic endeavors. And my parents for always being the biggest fans of everything I do and making time in their busy schedules to see me wherever I may be performing.
