We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Broome and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting a business wasn’t actually ever in my plans. I was committed to providing good trauma therapy and somatic experiencing to folks in the community who don’t typically have access to services, but unfortunately working in the non-profit behavioral health world had some setbacks. I found I had more and more clients and less time to spend with them and didn’t feel I was able to support these humans the way I knew they needed. So, in January of 2022, I decided to open Somatic Love & Healing, LLC. to better serve my community.
What should our readers know about your business?
My ultimate goal is to help operate a co-op, where all kinds of healers get to serve the community and have connections with each other…but in the meantime, I work to provide somatic psychotherapy and bodywork to humans in need. This work is aimed at resolving trauma symptoms and helping folks have a more well-regulated nervous system, giving them access to pleasure, delight and ease. Running a business feels like there are continual learning opportunities to improve and I couldn’t have done it without my community. The most important thing I’ve learned about running a practice is that I don’t need to it all on my own – we need each other.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tucson is one of my favorite cities. We’re a big city with small town vibes and you can find friendly people and delicious food almost anywhere. I love to hike Seven Falls, or Mt. Lemmon and take some time to be out in the beautiful desert – Saguaros have their own kind of magic. We can find some delicious food, drinks, and live music at Mercado San Agustin.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We all get by with a little help from our friends, right? Several of my mentors have been so encouraging and loving with me and I couldn’t have dreamed of getting here without their kindness. I’d love to thank Mary Jane Pringle, LCSW, for for teaching me patience and wisdom comes from trying new things, Alicia Donovan, LPC, for teaching me about self-worth and values, and two of my very loved SEI mentors, Joshua Sylvae, MFT, SEP, and Mahshid Hager, MFT, SEP, who taught me the importance of laughter, delight, and humanness in the business of trauma healing. I hope to become the mentors to other folks in the future that these wonderful humans were to me.
