We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art allows me to braid both my interests in creative expression and helping others speak their voice as well. Working in letterpress as a pre-press and customer service has been a blessing in this arena. Nothing makes me happier to connect artists with the right tools, techniques, and answers so they can be better or make better art. It’s a beautiful thing to be a part of!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There is a magical feeling you get when you help someone learn or get the “eureka!” moment when they are having a tough time while on press (or preparing digital files for print production). I’ll get a customer who is feeling blue and frustrated at the start of the call… and then get them laughing, joking, and feeling more confident on what to do next to tackle a problem or find a better way of doing things. That in my book is what makes the art process (and helping artists out) so wonderful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In upstate central NY, I’d have to show off a little bit of the hidden gems that are: Three Lives Bar(!), Secret Garden restaurant, Chittenango Falls State park, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Dinosaur BBQ, the bread and bakery aisle of Wegmans, Gangnam Style Korean Kitchen, Recess Coffee, Three of Swords tattoo parlor, The Gear Factory (a great art space and community!), the Delavan Center, and of course…. Boxcar Press! No visit is complete without time checking out our vintage presses in action.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge amazing shout-out to all those letterpress artists who are curious what they can do to push their own artwork and expressions. Specific round of applause out to Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick for their continued service to the artistic community!
