Meet Rebecca Sunshine | Baking Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Sunshine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing I would say most outsiders don’t realize about having a baking business is that there is a lot of competition and it’s hard to win people over when there are so many options.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m so young, it’s not every day you find a 16-year-old with a baking business. My strategy has always been a mix of word-of-mouth and social media promoting. I try my best to stay organized and communicate with my customers. It hasn’t always been easy at all!! I often find myself stressed and worried about problems that occur. I usually take a step back and try to look at the situation from a different point of view, which can help me. I’ve learned to not be afraid to ask for help from the people that are there for me like my family and friends. I would want the world to know that although I’m young my desserts are amazing and it is important to support small businesses.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were coming to visit I would start by taking them to Sunshine Breakfast Bar for breakfast, and then go on a hike and end at lunch at Cava, for dinner, I would take us to The Parlor where we could enjoy pizza and pasta. The next day I would spend at the farmers market on High Street where we could also eat Breakfast at The Boozy. The OdySea Aquarium in Scottsdale would be a fantastic day trip and we could grab a bite to eat there. For dinner, we would go to Kasai to have some Japanese food. Some other places I would take my best friend would be Pv Pie and wine, Humble Bistro, Culinary Dropout, North Italia, and Ristorante Giuseppe for dinner, we would definitely go to High Street and Scottsdale Quarter at night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my parents for everything they have done for me to start and continue this business. I also want to thank my Grandma Carole for starting my love for baking when I was so young.
