We had the good fortune of connecting with Renat Matsov and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renat, why did you pursue a creative career?
I didnt pursue it if to be honest. its just happened so. I draw from a very young age and its just become a part of my life where i cant imagine my life without drawing or creating something. Art became my best friend. It gave me knowledge of different things and opportunity to build my world with its own gravity where exist one rule: have fun, be unique and be free to experiment and be honest with yourself. I tried different jobs out until i find the only thing where i feel myself on its place

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In childhood my mother wanted me to read books and do handwriting lessons everyday about 2hours. It was a torture honestly i hated it with all my heart. But i grew up and became a calligrapher and a poet. Sound like a joke))) now i love it all. may be the reason was in protest against stereotypes of something that you must do every day without meaning. I always wanted to brake rules in creating unique, mine things… what doesnt exist and to be recognisable. Im always trying to astonish myself. It all takes time a lot of time, struggle, patience and a lot of practice. You need always to be involved in it and try to become better Be a bit critical but not much. If something goes wrong take a break rethink the idea and try again. Life is a challenge and there are no such things that cant be solved.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I mainly dont hang out. I like walking a lot as im from Tallinn Estonia i like walking through the old town trying to find something new in it. City itself stands near the sea and on summertime its always lot of fun or hang out in Telliskivi art area there are lot of different places with good food and drinks. Nice place to visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

There are a lot of people to whom i would like to say a huge thanks. Family who gave me opportunity and belief. My beautiful clients and amazing creative people from all around the world.

I like to watch how other artists do their work. analyze what happened, what didn’t, find out how he/she looks at the world. Once I found …. Book… “MA’CLAIM finest photorealistic graffiti”  which influenced on me on its time and of course incredible works of Salvador Dali and his unreal real world.
