We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhonda Sturgeon, D.C. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rhonda, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Old Town Maine. I went to undergraduate school for exercise science at The University of Maine at Orono. I continued my education in Chesterfield, MO at Logan College of Chiropractic. I have practiced in Fort Collins, CO and Stratham, NH before moving to Tucson, AZ. Deep in my core I have always been sensitive to other peoples feelings and emotions. I have always known that I was here to help people heal and release their pain, tension and trauma that keeps them from living their optimal life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been a Chiropractor for 24 years. I started getting adjusted myself when I was 20. I began having back pain when I was about 10 years old and in high school I started taking ibuprofen at night to sleep. I hated taking it because I always believed my body was intelligent enough to heal itself. At the time I did not know what I was experiencing was sciatica and restless leg syndrome. I ended up in a Chiropractors office because I really hurt my back lifting something. The first Chiropractor I saw did not really help me. A couple years later I started bodybuilding and tried a new Chiropractor. I loved him. I was visiting him often due to constant injury from squatting. As I continued care on a regular bases I noticed other things in my body starting to heal. Not only did my pain go away, it helped my sleep, my tension/stress levels, my digestion and so on. After undergraduate school I decide to continue my education and I went to Chiropractic school. When I began school I thought I would head focus on sport type of injuries and be more of a traditional Chiropractor. The universe had different plan for me. I would be considered a non traditional Chiropractor. I started my career structurally adjusted and I still do those techniques but as I began practice many moons ago I noticed that I move a lot of energy in people and when I would work on them they would release emotional tension and old stuck emotions. I have continued to evolve as healer and evolve my practice. I do a lot of non-force Chiropractic techniques when I work on individuals as well as Reiki, Doterra essential oils, Sound healing, crystals/stones, cranial work, intuitive sessions, distance healing sessions, as well as my own technique that came through me years ago. I am getting ready to add a few services to my practice. Starting a business was not easy it definitely brings up our own stuff we need to heal. The biggest lesson I would say is over time, I have had to incorporate better boundaries around my business and personal life. I used to believe that because I was here to give, love, serve that somehow I did not matter. If someone was in pain whether that is emotional or physical pain, then I felt had to drop what I was doing to help them. I have realized if I am not clearing and grounding myself, finding joy in life outside of the office then I am not as productive in the office. I have learned to say no when I really can’t make time for someone who wants an appointment outside of my scheduled hours.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few of my favorite restaurants in town are Wild Garlic, True Foods, Turmerico, Fiamme, Truland and Vero Amore, My favorite coffee shop is Savaya Coffee. I would take someone hiking at Sabino Canyon or Mount Lemmon. The Desert Museum is always a nice day trip. I would take a friend to Tucson Strength and Drishti Yoga. La Encantada is a beautiful place to walk around

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people throughout the years who help shape who one becomes. Mentors, teachers, loved ones, even the people who hurt us and cause trauma. If we look at life as lessons and growing experience everyone plays a role. The person who keeps coming to mind when I read this question is Deborah Mills in Fort Collins, CO. She was my Reiki Teacher, friend and a mother figure in my life. She helped me during a very difficult time in my life. She helped me with clearing and seeing some old belief systems that I did not even know were present.
