We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert and Leanne Tarrant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert and Leanne, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Robert grew up in London UK and his parents worked multiple jobs to set up the family and save to move the family to Australia in the 1970’s. Robert’s family prospered in Perth Western Australia. he learnt from his father that nothing is impossible if you want to do it,

Leanne grew up in Australia and her parents travelled – which gave us both a love of travel.

Robert travelled with the Royal Australian Airforce and worked in Saudi Arabia for 12 years, where he and Leanne met (Leanne had been living in London prior to work in Saudi Arabia).

We returned to Australia in 2004 and where we traveled for vacations. When we retired we were going to travel in Australia and then found out about RVing in the US – we were told it was not possible – so we had to try and we went to great lengths to get a long tourist visa.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Robert was 43 years maintaining military aircraft where he learnt good work ethic, discipline and planning. If you have a good plan then you can do anything..

Leanne worked in administration- planning extensive domestic and international travel for others – high level support of executive staff.. this set her up to manage long term international travel and problem solving as it was needed.

While living in the Middle East we both scuba dived and photography was a huge part of that lifestyle, we did both still and video work, experimenting and learning to get great pictures. We travelled extensively during this period of our lives with a lot of camera gear.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Scenario – visiting friends from Australia

Page – visit the canyons and Powell Lake – maybe a night or two on a houseboat. Self catering…

Grand Canyon – stay Williams – check out the Main Street – original Route 66. Take the train up to the Grand Canyon, walk the south rim area, lunch choices would be Bright Angel Lodge, the Steak House or El Tovar. Do some shopping and art viewing..

Tucson – Visit the shopping precinct and both of the National Saguaro Parks – north and south.

Tombstone/Bisbee – get some history in both of these towns – see where real life happened and became a movie. Lunch at Bisbee, a variety of choice there – what everyone feels like on the day….

We always try to find a cafe when visiting areas….. great start to investigating a new town or area..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our parents…

Robert – especially his father – don’t take no for answer, challenge the norm, be all you can be.

Leanne – my parents taught me hard work and good work ethic and you can do anything you set your mind to..
