We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Hogan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The combination of determination, persistence and resilience has served me well throughout my life. I was always able to set goals and wanted to prove to myself that I could accomplish them. I’ve learned that focusing on the small goals can lead to the bigger, more amazing goals. In college I worked very hard academically in order to pursue a career in medicine. And then throughout medical school, I was determined to get accepted into a radiology residency program. I worked very hard, persisted through difficulty and was able to successfully achieve these goals. As a health nut and athlete throughout my life, I became an avid runner in my 30’s. After I had my first child during residency, I challenged myself to complete the Chicago Marathon. 15 marathons later, with determination and resilience, I was able to qualify and complete Boston Marathon. With these qualities, I’ve also been able to turn my passion of creating gemstone jewelry into a successful small business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Exploring various forms of art, from oil painting to photography, was always an outlet throughout my life and during my career as a physician. Yet it wasn’t until 2017 when I realized a passion for creating gemstone jewelry. I immersed myself in the creative process and slowly this new dream began taking shape. Mostly self taught, I now create gemstone jewelry full time using many of the trained skills from my professional medical career – with patience, precision & passion. My skills are ever evolving as I challenge myself by learning new wire wrapping techniques and the art of metal smithing.

I founded Agapé Artisan Jewelry, a small-batch demi-fine jewelry company where authenticity, curiosity & enthusiasm are among the core values. I offer a variety of designs that reflect uniquely beautiful & multidimensional women of the world. Founding this small business is my joyful journey of self discovery. My mission is to create beautiful jewelry to inspire, encourage and uplift women of all generations.

Natural gemstones are the primary and endless source of inspiration. An enthusiasm for travel, history and art also heavily influence my work, stemming from childhood travels to my family’s homeland of Egypt and time abroad in Europe and the Caribbean. I try to showcase the intrinsic beauty of hand-selected precious & semi-precious gemstones with a refined use of color – as seen in the fluidity of my favorite signature ombré designs. Many pieces also incorporate historic elements that are both timeless & beautiful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arrival Friday evening: As a pizza fanatic, my first stop would have to be Bianco’s Pizza (be prepared for a long wait). Saturday begins with an early morning hike up Camelback mountain. Spend the afternoon strolling Old Town Scottsdale, check out the small shops, support local businesses at the Farmer’s Market & lunch at The Mission – the table side guacamole is not to be missed! Spend the evening poolside and relax as a guest at Scottsdale Princess. Fans of ‘Triple D’ will not want to miss dinner at Andrioli’s Italian Grocer for incredible authentic Italian. Hopefully you’ll run into Giovanni, the chef and owner, who is quite a character. Sunday starts with early morning round of golf at Troon North then head up to Heard Museum for all art lovers. Or for anyone with kids – the OdySea Aquarium is lots of fun, the Ripley’s Believe it or Not and Butterfly Wonderland are family favorites. Quick lunch at Culinary Dropout in Tempe before heading out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my late father, someone who I miss greatly. My father was a gentle soul, hard worker and great role model. He was a man with a big heart and was well loved. I have to also recognize my husband. He is my biggest fan and greatest supporter. He always encourages me to pursue my dreams and I can always count on him to offer words of wisdom.
