We had the good fortune of connecting with Ross Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ross, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t know what it looked like at the time, but I’ve always been working towards an artistic career. Some of my most fond memories of family time came from watching movies together. It was a feeling (escapism) I wanted to be able to give to others, as much as possible. A life of film made sense to me at a young age, though I wasn’t at all sure how or what it would look like. I began going to auditions and getting parts at the ripe age of 15, even made some hefty moves, but didn’t feel the connection with being in front of a camera. Years down the road, after finding out that corporate America is not for Ash or I, an opportunity along the path we chose showed me that behind the scenes is where I feel comfortable and connected. It’s now been a decade of finding our footing, learning from others, graduating from YouTube university, honing skills, and I could not be more proud of us for pushing our passion into something more with the goal of becoming great storytellers.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First of all, this is a huge honor. Ash and I are both so often in our heads, we’ll get stuck in the next thing, or the next video, it’s very easy to forget to acknowledge how hard we’re working or how far we’ve come. It’s surreal. Thank you for this opportunity!
At it’s core, Feedz is about telling stories. Whether the story is a snippet or a historical timeline, we want to share these stories in the most cinematic way we can using as much original footage as possible.
I have absolutely loved watching our skills and cache of footage grow. Just like anything, if you practice enough, you’ll begin to understand the whys, hows, and what comes nexts. With every shoot, interview, story we’ve done, we’ve gotten tighter, quicker, and the results have gotten better.
We are not your typical influencer. In fact VegasFeedz was born from years of social media expertise and a desire to become modern filmmakers in a beautifuly setting. We didn’t grow up in the film industry and we’re not really sure what the world of content and film will look like in the next decades, but we are ready to evolve with it.
One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that if you really want something, you’re going to have to give it 10 years and beyond. I’ve always heard 10,000 hours is all that’s needed, but in today’s space, those hours only makes you good at the craft itself. It even make a dent in all the other things required.
Feedz is not our first attempt at success and we are no where close to where we plan to be. You’ll hear that the road to success is not a straight, easy trip and it’s true. Along the way there will be failures, small wins, disappointments, not-soon-enoughs, pivots, celebrations, restarts, too-soons.
It’s not easy; nothing worth it is. And it’s worth noting that if they say it’s easy, they’re lying to you or it’s a scam. If they’re saying it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do, they’re being truthful and it might be worth your attention.
I believe Seth Rogan said that ‘if you don’t quit, you might make it. And if you quit, you definitely won’t.’
At the end of the day, I want to become the best storyteller that I can possibly be. I want to help carry film into the modern world. You don’t do that by waiting for others. You don’t do that by hoping the right story falls into your lap. You go look for it. Ash and I are looking for it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I come to Phoenix, all I can think of is golf and food. My Valley of the Sun must haves are: -brunch at The Nosh Cafe in Ahwatukee
-the perfect diner breakfast at Harlows Cafe in Tempe
-cool down with a shaved ice from Bahama Bucks
-dinner & cocktails at Culinary Dropout
-pizza, beer & conversation at Oreganos
-dinner at Chelseas Kitchen in Phoenix
-bar hop, shop, or people watch, on Mill Avenue – it’s where Ash & I met.
-try to catch a ghost at Casey Moore’s Oyster House near ASU
-a round of golf at Legacy Golf Club.
-a round of golf at TPC Scottsdale
-TopGolf Scottsdale
-spring training games at Sloan Park, Tempe Diablo, or Salt River Fields at Talking Stick
-tube down the Salt River in Tonto National Forest
-lazy river at the Biltmore
-take in the views of the city from the top of the Kimpton Hotel Palomar
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Ashley, because of her unwavering support turned partnership. Getting to do what we do and growing our skills towards something we enjoy is a dream. As well as my parents; for giving this dreamer a sense of urgency with the distinct belief that not even the sky is a limit.
