Meet Ryan Neuerburg | Host of the Jim on Base Show

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Neuerburg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I started the Jim on Base Show during the pandemic. I grew up listening to sports radio and felt that there was a disconnect between the audience and show hosts.
I became curious about who my favorite athletes & entertainers were as people & figured there are other fans out in the world who would find that interesting as well.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the beginning, I would talk myself out of starting the podcast. I had no experience with audio equipment and didn’t know how to upload episodes to Apple, Spotify, Google etc The idea kept popping up in my head so I eventually went for it and began reaching out to some of my favorite athletes. To my surprise, almost all of the athletes I got a hold of, agreed to do the show!
When the show begins, I go by “Jim Stevens” aka my radio host alias. In the beginning, I kept my show a secret from most of my family, friends, coworkers etc because I didn’t know if the show would actually take off. I even spoke in a ‘radio voice’ initially to disguise my actual voice!
To my pleasant surprise, I began to get a lot of big name athletes which led to comedians, actors, musicians etc.
One thing led to another and I’ve been able to attend spring training to interview Major League Baseball players, the Pebble Beach pro am, the American Century celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, and continue covering the San Francisco Giants & Oakland Athletics during the regular season.
It’s been a very surreal and exciting experience being able to have in depth conversations about my favorite entertainment and sports figures lives.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am based in the East Bay Area of California next to San Francisco. If I were to have a friend visit me, depending on the season, I’d take them to a San Francisco Giants game. Oracle park, is one of the best baseball parks and overall sports fan experiences in professional sports. Whether it’s watching the game, taking in the beautiful views of the San Francisco Bay, or eating some garlic fries, Oracle park is nearly impossible to beat!
Since I’m a music fan, we’d have to go to a concert and go to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. Certain bands I’ve seen at ‘the Greek’ are pretty much made to play at that venue on a summer night. Bands like Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Robert Plant & Alison Krause, R.E.M, etc with the setting sun behind the stage make for a perfect night.
For a more relaxed setting, a walk along Crissy Field in San Francisco towards the Golden Gate Bridge is a perfect way to end a weekend. On a sunny day with dogs running along the beach, and the backdrop of the golden gate, it doesn’t get much better!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The San Francisco Giants PR staff for allowing me to come to spring training and interview players.
The Weidinger PR staff for allowing me to be a part of the American Century celebrity golf tournament. I was able to branch out and interview comedians & other entertainment figures.
Radio host & friend of the show, Marty Lurie for his mentorship and helpful tips
