We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Stuck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always had a love for art growing up but not just the typical painting. I have always been interested in clothes, tattoos, hair designs, and graffiti. Growing up in California I had a lot of exposure to various fashion trends and hair trends at a young age.I chose to be a barber because I love the way barbers make people feel. People get there haircut and will walk out feeling like a new person. There’s more to a barber than just someone who cuts hair, you can talk to a barber just as they were your therapist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I am not a professional yet, I love what I do and love the art behind hair cutting. Haircuts are a way for me to have fun and transform a grown out haircut into a vision of the end result in my mind. I stand out from others by providing an experience over a haircut. I constantly get complimented on my service I provide and my attention to detail. When I started I struggled like every one but I was able to grasp things quickly. Shear work was my hardest concept to get down at first, all of the sectioning and different ways to approach the haircuts was overwhelming but overtime it just became natural.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Tucson is a beautiful place for scenery and hiking, but there isn’t too many city activities to do if you’re under 21. My favorite places to go in Tucson is either Mt. Lemmon or downtown. Mt Lemmon gives you a beautiful overlook of the whole city, at nighttime you can see the city lights and it’s really pretty. Downtown is a cool place to walk around at night with your friends or occasionally go to the Rialto Theatre to see a concert or an event. My favorite restaurant in the city is Vero Amore they have amazing Italian food, it’s definitely worth it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I want to give a huge shoutout to my family for supporting me every step in my journey. Secondly Alex Castillo, my instructor at Tucson Barber Institute helped mold all the barber skills I have. He is a great teacher and has taught me more than just cutting hair. He has taught me life skills such as networking, communication skills, and business tips. Someone else who has helped develop my skills is Phil. Phil owns The Barber Lounge and will come to our school to teach classes. He has broadened my variations on how to approach haircuts and techniques. I want to give one last shoutout to my family at Tucson Barber Institute for always being there and helping each other out. Junie,Alex,Gabe,Jordan, Christian,Margaret,Kevin I appreciate you all.
