We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Komadina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I disagree with the notion in Western medicine that the Doctor is always right. I am beyond grateful that we have the advances and technologies in medicine that we have today but somewhere along the way, people lost their ability to advocate for themselves, ask questions, and get second and even third opinions.

I see clients in my practice on a regular basis who come to me with all kinds of health questions. For each of their questions or concerns, I ask more questions. Many of my clients seem to be surprised by the questions I ask. All I am doing is trying to get to the source or root of the problem. Western medicine leaves out a lot and treats the body as parts and pieces. We go to specialist when one of our parts isn’t working right. I look at the body as a whole, ask questions about every aspect of the clients life and refer out if I feel the client needs more than I am qualified to give.

What should our readers know about your business?
I own and operate The Holistic Health Studio where I work with clients in a variety of ways in order to help each client get to their health, lifestyle and fitness goals .

The services I offer at my studio include, health, lifestyle, nutrition and fitness coaching, personal training, individual exercise design, and massage and cupping therapy.

What makes The Holistic Health Studio different is the individual time spent with each client. Individual design allows me to help clients get to their goals safely and efficiently. It is important to me to build a strong trusting relationship with each of my clients. Before on boarding a new client I spend 60-90 minutes for an initial consultation to discuss the clients goals, past experiences, and current lifestyle. Once a client is on board I then put them through a movement assessment to see where their body is, how it moves and what issues or past injuries we need to work around. Once I have all of that information I can then procced to writing out appropriate exercise design which the client can do at any gym, their home or my office for personal training. If a client is more interested in breaking old habits and working on nutrition or lifestyle goals that is where the time and energy will be focused.

I believe in this model and know that it works because I am the proof. I struggled with my weight my entire life and wasn’t able to get to a health weight until my early 30’s when I hired an Opex coach. From there I lost 50 pounds, put on a ton of muscle and have completely changed my lifestyle and eating habits, at almost 40 I am in the best shape and health I have ever been. I want to share the knowledge I have gained and help others find their health path.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I feel incredibly blessed to live in Prescott, though I wouldn’t say we are much of a food city, what we lack in restaurants we definitely make up for in scenery, views, sunsets and so much nature.

I would take my guest on a leisurely walk up and down historic Mount Vernon street which is lined with gorgeous old homes from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The street is lined with old trees that change to beautiful reds, oranges and yellows in the fall and create the most beautiful shady tree lined street in the spring and summer. From there we would walk a few blocks to the historic downtown square to visit local mom and pop shops, walk around the grass covered and treed lined courthouse square and maybe get a bit to eat at Lazy G Brew House or grab a cocktail at one of our many famous bars on or off Whisky Row.

The rest of their visit might entail a hike on one of our many miles of hiking trails, over 500 miles to be exact! Depending on the weather I may take my guest to one of our many beautiful lakes for a walk around, kayak or maybe even a rock climb through the boulders of the Granite Dells or Watson lake.

For dinner one evening I will take them on a 20-30 minute drive out to the nearby small city of Chino Valley were my favorite restaurant, Essence is located, that chef always impresses! Then back to town for a drink at Founding Fathers or The Point.

Really no matter what I decide to take my guest to do, I know they would have a blast, Prescott is an absolutely gorgeous city that is full of many things to do, so much nature and lots of friendly happy people. Prescott is all about quality of life!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people in my life, authors of great books and even many of my life experiences that have helped me get to where I am today but I have to give the biggest Shoutout to Opex Fitness. My health and fitness journey has been a long one but it all came together when I hired my first Opex Coach 6 years ago, that decision lead me to become an Opex Coach.

For the first time things were different, I was being coached and educated. I was finally able to understand why I was over weight and what was stopping me from getting to a healthy weight. My coach designed an exercise program that was right for my body and ability at the time and as I changed and evolved so did my exercise design and lifestyle. The Opex method changed me in such profound ways I decided to become a coach myself.

I wake up everyday hoping to inspire change in clients, get them to think differently, question everything and advocate for themselves and the life they truly want.

Thank You Opex!
