We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?

The biggest thing I have done as a parent that has impacted my children is to stop straightening my hair. I know, what, why, huh??? But hear me out, coils, curls and waves are the are the minority when it comes to hair texture. My kids were blessed with BEAUTIFUL curls, but for the longest time they would ask me to straighten their hair, so they could be like mom. My thoughts were always, “why start damaging your hair now, when you have your whole life to do so? Your hair is so pretty why would you want to change it?” But as I thought more and more about the questions I asked myself… I started to find the answers. They didn’t want to “just straighten their hair” and they definitely didn’t want to do what I say, they wanted to be like mom, and do what I DO!. I was showing them that straightening my hair, or altering my God given beauty was right, better and ideal. But in actuality I just didn’t know how to care for my waves, so it was easier. If I wanted to change their perspective and have them “embrace their natural beauty” I needed to do the same. So cold turkey I stopped straightening my hair, and started to learn, treat and care for my waves.

This taught them that they are enough, how they were made was not by mistake, nor was there flaw in God’s creation. Fast forward a few years later, I can not remember the last time they asked for their hair to be straightened.

MoonstoneSeven was born because of the example I wanted to set for my kids. Without my kids I would not have my brand, they ARE the reason behind why I can do what I do!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

In the last 10 years I have worked my way through the design world, starting as a Production Designer and ending my experience in the corporate world as a Creative Director.

I have learned a lot of life lessons while navigating the corporate world. My biggest mentor was my boss when I worked for Kohls Corp. His name is Ronn Patterson. I was young, out spoken and talented. He taught me how to be heard in a room full of executives, while continually being receptive to feedback. Growing and learning along the way with every project I did. He never gave me the answer, but posed questions to help me discover the answers on my own. Taking a deeper look into the “why’s of the world” while also accomplishing a task is something I have taken with and used my entire professional life.

Nothing in the design world is easy, everyone has a different idea on how it should look, but very few can accomplish what needs to be done. Art is subjective and everyone has an opinion – knowing when to push back, and when to give a little is a skill that has to be mastered. This is something I have taken into all aspects of my life, which I believe makes me a great business professional. I have experience as a production designer, graphic designer, digital designer, photographer, videographer and animator. I have worked closely with Marketing Directors of all backgrounds and have worked for a few entrepreneurs, taking note and watching carefully.

I like to think of myself as a triple threat – designer, marketer and entrepreneur

I’m an empath with a strong personality, and if I could tell my younger self one thing it would be – a “strong personality” isn’t a bad thing – in fact it will get you many places in life. Those that are intimated by it, will tell you that it’s a bad thing, gaslight you and tell you to reign it in, but NEVER dull your light because it shines in someone else’s eyes.

All of these lessons have cultivated into my brand MoonstoneSeven – and I couldn’t be more excited. We currently only have one SKU, which is “the hair plop” which significantly cuts down your hair drying time! The Hair Plop enhances your natural definition and produces the luscious, bouncy waves and curls you have been looking for! It’s a soft, stretchy, comfortable, and versatile hair wrap! It will leave your curls frizz-free, defined and won’t scratch the surface of your hair strands. Whether you wear it for 10 mins or 10 hours your curls will thank you when they are frizz free, defined and looking beautiful!

MoonstoneSeven is a brand brought to life by two loving parents who embrace their natural hair and teach their three biracial daughters to do the same, unlocking the inner goddess that exists deep within them! The brand acts as a reminder to cleanse the mind of negative emotions holding you back and eliminate self doubt. Moonstone is the destiny maker, symbolizing “new beginnings” and inner growth – a symbol of love. The number 7 symbolizes every positive and valuable matter in existence, happiness, renewal, and perfection!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Oh wow, this is tough!

I am a resort girl so we would have to stay at one of my top three resorts in Phoenix!

* JW Desert Ridge
* The Phoenician
* The Biltmore.

Little known fact I am vegan and gluten free, so we would hit up:

* Farm and Craft Scottsdale
* The Giving Tree Cafe
* True Foods
* Toca Madera

My favorite coffee spot is 100% Schmooze in Old Town Scottsdale, literally will drive 25mins for a latte! Not to mention the owner is a super nice human!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

My husband deserves credit – He stood behind my dream from the first sketch, the initial investment from our personal savings and believed in me when I left my 9-5 as a Creative Director.

He also works behind the scenes by helping to pack thousands of orders, make hundreds of post office runs, organize inventory and makes me killer latte when I need to stay up late!
