Meet Sarah Voris | Copywriter & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Voris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My priority from day 1 has always been to stay at home with my kids, so we’ve been pretty creative over the years with trying out different types of businesses that would allow it. I’m a 5x MLM drop out, I’ve run my own bakery from our home, I’ve taught preschool from our home, and I’ve taught English lessons to kids in China (without knowing a lick of Mandarin). But none of them were THE thing. I, very accidentally, started doing some copywriting for a woman who owned her own business and realized I was skilled as a copywriter (which was a job I didn’t even know existed). She really helped me see the science behind good writing and WHY what I wrote was so connective. I started to see the value it brings to businesses and from there it grew!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Truthfully, copywriters are a dime a dozen. You can find things on fiver or upwork for cheap. The biggest difference that great copywriters bring to the table is being able to really get in to the mind of your Ideal Client and speak to them. Most often, people are looking for sales copy because that’s what brings in the dollars.
What sets me apart is taking a giant step back from there and using what I like to call “connective copy.” If your people don’t know, like, and trust you first, the best sales copy doesn’t matter. You have to be able to connect to them and use their language.
That’s been one of the biggest challenges for me, getting people to understand that they don’t need to focus on salesy type of language, but rather connecting with their people.
I have an email template membership that is designed to make email marketing ridiculously easy for coaches and educators and, while there is a definitely a focus for sales, the main building block is connecting with your people and bringing value to them on a weekly basis.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Weeeell, I’d probably give them a tour of all of our great coffee shops in the northwest valley: Well Coffee, Northwest Coffee, Phoenix Strange Brew and hit up all the Mexican food I could find. Other than that, we’d hit up whatever team was in season and spend all the rest of our time in A/C away from the heat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The encouragement I’ve received from my husband and parents has been unreal. My husband has never let me believe any of the lies I can tell myself. That I’m not good enough or don’t know enough. He simply meets me where I’m at and combats that with truth and what he sees in me. As for my parents, they often tell me they don’t really understand what it is that I do, which is hilarious, but that they’re so impressed with my entrepreneurial spirit and just making things happen. All three of them believe in me, even when I’m not quite there myself.
