We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott & Beth Storace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott & Beth, what do you attribute your success to?
Business has instilled in me the wisdom that success follows when one consistently adheres to the right principles—doing things ethically, prioritizing people, and engaging in the correct activities. Cutting corners is not a solution for long term success; the easy way out is rarely the answer, or else everyone would adopt it. Confronting challenges directly, rather than avoiding them, is essential, as problems tend to grow if left unaddressed over time. While delivering difficult news poses a challenge, I’ve learned that honesty is valued, and people appreciate sincere efforts, even if the outcome isn’t what they hoped for. In essence, the key to navigating the business landscape is a combination of hard work, smart decision-making, and the timeless guidance of the Golden Rule—treating others as you would like to be treated.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With over 18 years of experience in the industry, I’ve encountered just about everything – the good, the bad, and the ugly. What stands out among the best in the business is a common thread: a commitment to constant improvement, ethical practices, proactive communication, and a dedicated focus on enhancing the client’s overall experience. It’s a winning formula because everyone wins.
Our approach involves streamlining processes, eliminating guesswork, and alleviating anxiety along the loan journey. We believe in celebrating victories with our clients and expressing our sincere appreciation for the trust they have instilled in us. We go the extra mile by checking in before their first payment, ensuring everything is in order. It’s the small gestures that we believe make a significant difference in easing their burdens during an emotional time. Let’s face it, any form of home financing has an emotional component built in. So, we must be understanding of what it means to them.
Our journey has not always been smooth. In fact, the market frequently throws unexpected challenges our way. Whether it’s coping with a sudden surge in interest rates or adapting to evolving industry guidelines, staying nimble and unwaveringly committed has been the cornerstone of our enduring success. Quitting is simply not an option for us.
During the tumultuous times of the Great Recession, the mortgage industry was in disarray. However, this period also presented new opportunities for those willing to seek them out and remain dedicated. The same holds true today—there are ups and downs, but commitment is the linchpin. Over time, the tough years become more manageable, and the good years become even more rewarding.
Finding someone deeply committed is crucial. When a client or partner places their trust in us, they can be confident that our actions align with our words. We don’t disappear when faced with challenges; instead, we provide reliable support, offering multiple solutions and guiding them through the entire process, from start to finish.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start with a sunrise hike at Granite Mountain. It’s my go to spot for a hike with breathtaking views of saguaros against the backdrop of the sun coming up over the mountains. Scottsdale Quarter is one of my favorite places to park and stroll leisurely. The boutiques here evoke the charming vibes of places like Newberry Street in Boston or the Marina in San Francisco. My favorite stores include Reformation from LA and Jennifer Croll, a gem I discovered while living in San Francisco.
When it comes to favorite restaurants, my tastes vary, but there are a couple of places that hold a special spot for me. Dominic’s is my go-to for a fantastic steak paired with incredible service. For a New York vibe and an exceptional taste of Mediterranean cuisine, Arbolida is a top pick. The ambiance and attention to detail make it an unforgettable dining experience.
For a unique blend of shopping, art galleries, dive bars, and diverse dining options, Old Town Scottsdale is another classic. Don’t forget to drop by my favorite sport and resort shop: Ali, where you can find the best golf, tennis, and pickleball clothing for women in the country.
For a Sunday afternoon, I’d opt for a more casual scene in Cave Creek. Throw on a pair of comfy jeans, grab a casual beer, enjoy live music, and explore the local desert shops showcasing beautiful artwork.
Now, when it comes to golf, opinions vary, but my personal favorite is Troon North. Not only is it a fantastic course, but the views are truly phenomenal. After a round, head over to Isabella’s at Greyhawk for the best 19th hole experience. It offers a casual golf atmosphere right on the course and boasts the perfect setting to catch a sunset.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My heartfelt gratitude goes to my business and personal coach of over 10 years, Mike Harris. Mike is more than just a coach; he’s my mentor and a cherished friend. It’s challenging to express adequately the guidance and support I’ve received through his wisdom, stories, and friendship. Mike often emphasized a valuable lesson that has stayed with me: “People do business with people they like and trust. It’s really that simple.” I began working with Mike during my tenure in the financial services industry. Together, we transformed a struggling territory into one of the leading ones in the country over the years. The journey wasn’t quick or easy, but it was built on a solid foundation that has become the cornerstone of how we operate at Storace Mortgage: Integrity, Excellence in Execution, Knowledge and Experience, and a Relationship-Driven Approach.
