We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Well, I would say there is a perception floating around about sound healing that it’s a new healing modality. While it’s true that crystal singing bowls came about during the 1980’s, using sound frequencies with the intention of healing and promoting well being actually dates back thousands of years! It’s really not “new” at all, it’s simply coming back full circle after being forgotten amongst the general population for a period of time. The power of vibrational sound therapy was well known in ancient Egyptian times and likely even dates back further than that! As a collective we are now starting to remember what the Egyptians knew – everything is energy and we can utilize sound frequencies to our benefit.
In more recent times Nikola Tesla and Albert Einstein spoke about how everything in the Universe is energy and holds a particular frequency, including ourselves. Knowing this, we can utilize certain healing frequencies to bring us back to our original blueprint or as I like to call it, our “Soul Song”. Sound frequencies have the ability to break apart stagnant energy and initiate release of deep seated trauma and/or toxins stored at the cellular level. Releasing this density opens up space for us to hold more light and raise our vibrational frequency which is the key to reaching our highest potential.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a certified Sound Healing Practitioner and I operate under the name of Soul Song Healing Vibrations. I host public and private Sound Baths in a variety of difference spaces… yoga studios, coffee shops, vegan restaurants, client’s backyards, etc. I think my current favorite is doing outdoor sound baths with equine therapy horses as I get to combine my two biggest passions together – Sound Healing and animals. It’s truly a unique experience to be outside listening to the birds sing along and watching the horses react to what I’m playing! I’ve also had the pleasure of offering Sound Healing to Senior Citizens and First Responders.
What sets me apart is that I focus on being my true, authentic self and as a result my Sound Baths definitely reflect that. My Sound Baths are best described as being celestial and etherial. My attendees many times feel as though they floated away to another dimension and came back. They often tell me that they lose all track of time, and feel much lighter. I build my Sound Baths around instruments that provide some of the highest frequencies available…. crystal singing bowls, chimes, tongue drums, crystal pyramids, etc. In my experience I have found it’s the higher frequencies that provide the deepest healing and transformation. Simply put, I love helping others heal and move forward along their personal journeys with confidence. I am a big believer that in order to reach our highest potential we must “feel it, heal it, and release it”. There are no shortcuts, but the end result is extremely rewarding.
I am most proud of overcoming my initial fears and doubts of whether or not I could step into these shoes. I remember quite vidly sitting there on Halloween night of 2020 getting ready to host my very first Sound Bath. I froze for a second thinking to myself “can I really do this”? As the last attendees walked in and got settled, the light bulb suddenly clicked on for me. All I had to do was be myself. And being myself is what truly allows me to help others the most. They appreciate my authenticity and feel comfortable in my presence which is extremely important to me.
In terms of challenges and lessons learned along my journey, I started offering Sound Healing during the middle of the pandemic. That was a trying time for many, and when I started out I wasn’t sure if anybody would even show up. Much to my surprise, after a few months I started selling out most of my events! That clearly showed me that people are looking for an outlet to heal and bond with others in a setting where they feel safe and free of judgement.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live on the border of Tempe and Mesa near Sloan Park and I’m quite fond of this area as it offers a variety of different things to do depending upon on your mood. For me personally, I am extremely passionate about music so I love seeing live shows at the Mesa Amphitheatre and Mesa Arts Center. I also love the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. It’s such a unique experience. I got to see the piano that John Lennon wrote “Imagine” on which was on display there for a limited time and that was such a huge thrill for me.
I am a regular at the Uptown Farmer’s Market in Central Phoenix every Saturday. In addition to discovering new vendors and trying out new foods, I’ve also made some amazing friends there. There is truly something for everyone there.
Outside of the Phoenix metro area, I truly love everything about Sedona…. the red rocks, amazing hiking trails, and it certainly has lots to offer those who are on a spiritual path. I highly recommend eating out at ChoclaTree in Sedona as they have a courtyard where you can eat your meal outside surrounded by trees. Amazing atmosphere there and you can tell they put a lot of love and care into their food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As far as who I am dedicating my shoutout to, it’s not even a question… that would be my dear friend Amber Mikesell. Amber is a very special person that I am blessed to have crossed paths with. I always joke that I have to put her in a special category because she wears so many different hats, and she has been both a friend and mentor to me. When I met her in late 2015, I had just gone through several years of intense deep personal transformation and I was very much in need of a life coach to help me align with the path that I came here to walk. She has been that for me and so much more. What’s most impressive about Amber is her ability to assist a variety of different clients, all possessing very different personalities. Speaking for myself, there have been periods where she needed to use different approaches depending upon where I was at in that given moment. She just has a certain feel for what is needed in order for someone to reach their highest potential whether it’s loving guidance, a more firm approach, or simply holding space.
I think the most important quality that any life coach or mentor must possess is being a good listener, and Amber certainly checks that box. She always allows me space to speak my truth. I continue to utilize a lot of the tools and techniques that she taught me to this day.
To give you an idea of just how gifted Amber is, she helped me recover from Adrenal Fatigue along with healing my childhood trauma. These are clearly two very different situations that most people would understandably seek out different individuals to treat, but I healed them both under Amber’s guidance. I think that really says it all where she is concerned.
