Meet Selcouth

We had the good fortune of connecting with Selcouth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selcouth, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For a long time we’ve seen how music can bring create bonds and bring people together. By putting our heads together we knew that we could create things that would resonate with people enough to make a career out of our talents.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We all started our own paths to musicianship separately meeting through work or school purely by chance and we haven’t stopped our momentum since. With independent knowledge of what it takes to produce songs, perform shows or just play and sing we’ve collectively enjoyed the process of learning and continue to do so. Nothing is ever easy on the first few goes but our dedication has proven true so far. Our appreciation for all kinds of music helps us make interesting compositions. If we get excited about a certain piece of gear we add to our catalog or a riff we think is cool or fun to play we go the extra mile to make it something that not only we would want to hear but that our audience would like as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One the best places to be for the local music scene is Downtown Mesa. Every year they hold the Mesa Music Festival where local musicians play all along the streets of Downtown Mesa, not to mention a few good spots to eat and drink along the way like Jerrod’s Coffee and Republica Empanada. One of the places we stop after practices and shows is Mellow Mushroom off the 60 and Stapley, one of the best pizzas you can get with an awesome environment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to shoutout our parents, each of us have had incredible support from them and our tastes, influences and love for music come straight from them. Our families in general have had a big hand in helping us achieve what we do in our humble scale on this journey.
