We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharvari Vaidya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharvari, how do you think about risk?
I have always been creative by nature and started my small business journey during peak Covid . I had just given birth to my youngest and was working full time from home. Having the flexibility to work from home gave me a chance to explore what else I could do to channelize my creative side. Thats how NVDSIGNZ was created . Initially it was just to supplement my current job and to see how I would fare as a small business owner, But as everyone in the world was stuck indoors due to covid restrictions my business started booming. It started with engraved nightlights that would play song from your phone which took the Etsy world by a storm and soon enough I was working overnights fulfilling orders. At that point I decided to quit my well paying job to continue my small business journey, Looking back I would say that has been the most rewarding risk I have ever taken.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have always had an understanding of making something look aesthetic be it my pop up stall, a booth at my store or my product. This has helped me look different from my peers and I always get complimented from customers on my aesthetics. After the initial success during Covid the Etsy market started getting flooded with similar items with cheaper pricing and it became harder to sell. That’s when I started using the means of social media to promote my business. As it is for everyone I struggled a little bit with my content in the beginning as it meant taking on additional responsibility of being your own social media manager, photographer, order packager, custom orders and everything in between.
As an introvert it was hard to put myself out there and showcase not just my products but also the person behind the brand. Thats when it occurred to me that it was now or never . I started seeing the results immediately people wanted to see the person behind the brand and wanted to connect with me as a person. I saw an upsurge in my following and the orders started coming through. People from all over the country were reaching out to me to work with me on custom orders and my products. Even though now I still struggle with social media from time to time I have learnt that it only affects your life if you let it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a small business owner I would love for my friend to visit some of the small business women owned establishments. We could start from Vibe- A healthy drinks and Eats place in Downtown Gilbert for the best shakes and refreshing drinks to start our day right. Then make our way to shop at one of our favorite places The Merchantile in DT Phoenix where you can find the cutest items all owned by multiple small business owners. Also no trip to Arizona would be complete without seeing the Grand Canyon !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has been my biggest cheerleader. It started from helping me package my orders to helping me at events when needed. The biggest help comes from my husband who is always understanding and is ready to help out with my kids and their schedules when I have markets and pop up events.
