Meet Shelby Blair | Design Consultant & Custom Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Blair and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelby, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my business are the relationships with my clients. Forming close bonds while making sure they have a memorable experience with my artwork is essential. I find it’s key to listen to their stories or vision, people have amazing things to share. Paying attention to their details allows my artwork to portray their ideas. Each piece I create is made specifically with their stories in mind, it’s how I’m able to tell their stories.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artwork started truly as a passion project. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been drawing and creating from since I can remember! But realizing I could take the passion I have for design and turn that into my career, that was the game changer. I started out drawing presents for my friends and family for holidays or special events. As I started to create these illustrations, more and more people were coming to me with their memories or stories that they wanted to commemorate. That’s when I realized that people actually liked what I was doing. It brought joy to their faces and it created these piece of art that meant the world to both of us. That fueled me to keep creating and pursuing my passion.
In this pursuit, I’ve learned so much along the way, like how to connect with clients, how to believe in myself and my work, how to run a business and how to be okay with the road being bumpy along the way. Most importantly I’ve learned that as with anything in life, it all takes balance. My hope is that my artwork inspires my clients and others to breathe in the beautiful snippets of life. Hold tight to what this world has to show you and keep creating!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question!

I love New York City, I find so much inspiration there. It’s were I worked in corporate fashion and where a lot of my style is pulled from. From the museums to Central Park and the tons of great places to eat, I’m a sucker for the energy and vibrancy of that city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my partner in life, Mauricio. I would have never pushed myself to start my own business and reach for my dreams if it weren’t for you inspiring, encouraging and believing in me.
