We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Galinski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sofia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Managing work-life balance during the Covid-19 pandemic is an adjustment and challenge for all of us. During the past 3 months, the whole world has had to spend a lot more time at home which reflects back to my profession as an Interior Designer. Our home is that place where you should feel safe and find comfort within yourself and your family. If you don’t like or feel comfortable in your own home, where are you supposed to go during a pandemic like this? There are so many things in a home that can create comfort, peace, and happiness. If you have had a difficult day at work and come home to a non-functioning home, your balance and energy will not find their happy place. A functional, comfortable, and balanced home doesn’t have to be high-end or expensive. What a home needs is energy flow, maximum natural light, and to be clear of stress and clutter. Weather you find things for your home at a drift store, garage sale, or an expensive furniture shop you can create a home that brings everything together and is a space of happiness and comfort. As an Interior Designer, I recommend that you kick start your journey to a happier and healthier home by fixing that light fixture that flickers, the door that always sticks, or by furnishing that empty unfinished space – All of this will have a positive impact on your energy and balance in life!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The career we choose in life can be based on so many things. Looking back, you have probably asked why you chose your career or why you ended up where you did. I believe that in a career you have to love what you do, ALWAYS. Your work is a big part of your life and if you’re not happy with your career, it will affect other things and your overall happiness. Again, you have the power of your own life. Make it happen! My decision to be an Interior Designer goes back to my childhood. I designed my own doll house to saved money to buy my own furniture for my room at age 10. I have always loved to explore people’s homes and truly believe a home can affect us in so many ways. My passion, and what keeps my creative spark going, is to help people and make their homes comfortable, balanced and functional. I truly love what I do and the impact I get to have on peoples homes!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a lover of nature, I would like to share a few favorite spots I got to experience last year during a trip with two of my best friends from Sweden. We started in the Sonoran Desert, got the paddle boards out and enjoyed the beautiful desert view from the lakes of Arizona. After the Sonoran Desert, we made our way to Sedona and slept under the stars. We hiked Devils Bridge and did yoga poses in the red rocks. We had not had enough of the views and took the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon – WOW! Finally, we made our way to Flagstaff, a beautiful mountain town. In Flagstaff, you found us on top of the mountain either riding our snowboards or mountain bikes through the pine trees. Arizona is an amazing state for outdoor adventures all year around! “All good things are wild & free”
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout-out to myself because of where I am in life and how I choose to live it. You and everyone in this world have the self-power to decide who you want to surround yourself with and how you create energy in your life. You are the one who choose to think negative or positive, and how you make the best out of day-to-day situations. Therefore, in my life, I choose to surround myself with people that inspire me, are passionate and love what they do, and embrace the one life we have with a big smile! “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your actions” -Dalai Lama XIV
