We had the good fortune of connecting with Steph Baer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steph, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I started making my air fresheners 2 1/2 years ago, I did some research and watched videos and decided to take a risk and throw my money into the air fresheners as they were selling, i was using that money to turn around and purchase more shapes to create the air fresheners and the scents. I started this business while working a full-time job and taking care of a child is pretty risky when I put my own money into this business hoping it will take off and its doing pretty well. Whatever I make I turn around and put it right back in to my business not necessarily paying myself yet. It makes my neighbors jealous because my house always smells so good. I have expanded my air fresheners to also making designs on cups but really enjoy the air freshener part of my business. it is the air fresheners I feel will be more on demand.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The thing about my air fresheners they are all custom made to order, I let my customers pick the scent, color and how they would like it, I will add different colors, ribbons, flowers, bows or bling to their orders. Not everyone is going to like my air fresheners or cups and I am ok with that, I cant please everyone and that’s ok, I just try and keep working harder. I always want my air fresheners to look the best for my customers. I am always looking for new molds and scents to keep everything fresh. I want the world to know about me is that never give up, and even though you doubt yourself other people don’t, I doubt myself every day but here I am a small business owner and I would have never thought that about myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came here for a week I would take them to Tombstone, Az, it has so much history and its a fun place to visit, I also would take them hiking and show them the best sunsets ever in Arizona. I would also drive down to Yuma, Az and stop by Chili Pepper to eat the best burritos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to Andra’ea LaVant, she is a disabled black woman, who owns her own business and nothing stops her, she has inspired me to work harder and be better person.
