We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Joz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, how do you think about risk?
Risk is essential in business. It’s the terrifying change that is necessary for growth whether it ends up working in your favor or not. If it works in your favor, instant growth! If it doesn’t, then you learn something from it and that in itself is value!
What should our readers know about your business?
Getting to where I am now was never easy, it’s still not easy! I think that’s something people get misconstrued about being in the social media business, they think it’s a simple, quick buck. It takes a lot of learning and re-learning being that social media and the internet always changes. On top of that, it takes a lot of picking yourself back up over and over when you lose a client or maybe a post you worked really hard on doesn’t perform how you thought. It takes patience.
What I’m proud of is my grit and energy when it comes to my business but most importantly my clients. I want nothing more than for my clients to feel comfortable with social media and of course to succeed! When working with me, I make sure they’re fully aware of what I’m doing with their business’ presence online and exactly what I need from them in order to succeed! It’s a team effort because after all, when you work with me we become teammates!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town we would grab some lunch right away at the Valentine Downtown! Then we’d grab some beers at the Greenwood Brewery right on Roosevelt, it’s an awesome woman-owned microbrewery. As for nightlife, I would definitely mix things up between Downtown Phoenix and Old Town Scottsdale. In Phoenix, we’d hit up From the Rooftop for some drinks with a view and in Scottsdale we’d head to Riot House for more of a club scene.
Lastly, aside from moseying around Old Town Scottsdale during the day, we’d have to spend at least one day floating down the Salt River!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The two books that helped me immensely in my journey of being an entrepreneur are You Are a Badass & The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*CK. These two books really taught me how to believe in myself, the universe, and not to care about what other people may think. Having that mindset shift was the make or break factor that really helped me and my business.
