We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarah and EJ Kerwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tarah and EJ, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started Relationship Renovation because we know relationships are at the heart of individual, family, and community wellness. When an individual’s relationship is loving, stable, and enriching, they function at a much higher level. They are more effective parents, professionals, and community members. We also thought that there was a gap in the mental health field. We saw a need for specialization in couple’s therapy. This led us to create a structured approach to working with couples that explores how the past creates significant struggles in adult relationships. We have made online and in person, programs to support couples in becoming their best selves together.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Tarah and I are partners, parents, therapists, entrepreneurs, and podcasters. We have helped hundreds of couples repair their relationships and regain their intimate loving connection. We have developed couples counseling programs and built a staff of therapists and are in the process of expanding our centers into multiple markets. Our podcast “Relationship Renovation” combines our experience as a couple with a blended family and our therapeutic insights into an informative and warm show that couples love because it normalizes their struggles while also providing insight and tools to build a better relationship. Age-wise we are in a sweet spot. We have one thriving center in Tucson, Arizona, and have begun seeking investors to open a series of Relationship Renovation Centers in Markets across the US. We are also creating multiple online programs for couples and individuals to utilize from the comfort of their own homes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tucson has so many pockets of vibrant culture. We love a date night where we jump on the trolley and make our way through the University of Arizona, down 4th Avenue, and always end up in the Mercado. We combine a drink at Augustin Kitchen with an amazing dinner at Seis Kitchen.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are inspired by a number of thought leaders in wellness. The Gottman’s set the standard for couples counseling for quite some time, and we love the research of Dr. Stan Tatkin at the PACT Institute.
