We had the good fortune of connecting with Tess Israelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tess, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity. Anything truly successful is authentic and original. When people see my work, it’s something they have never seen before. It has taken me years to develop a style that is uniquely my own. Success, for me, is measured by the way people are drawn to my work. When they have a connection and the piece finds its home, that’s what I consider success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My first experience with sculpture was in 1994. After that, I knew it was a part of my existence and I had to pursue it. It made sense to me.

When I began sculpting, the work held a lot of angst and strong feelings. Then I began studying meditation and work became very clean energetically. I no longer put any of myself into it. That’s what sets my work apart from others. I have no preconceived ideas about how the work is going to come out. I allow it to form how it wants to form and when finished, it goes to the destination it is supposed to go to.

I’m constantly working on myself professionally. It has been challenging to find the right fit for where my work needs to be shown. Every art show and gallery experience is a new lesson on where to improve and how to do things more efficiently.

I’m excited to see what the future holds for my work. I have so many ideas and I can’t wait for them to come into fruition.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to make a shoutout to my closest artist friends & soul mates-they know who they are. Although I consider myself an introvert and mostly solitary person, connecting up with these rare humans, fills me with a renewed sense of meaning. Life can often feel overwhelming and dark, so find the one’s who bring light and reciprocation back into your life.
