Meet Tracey Corenman | Art Director & Project Coordinator at Shortcut Filmmaking

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracey Corenman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our thought process behind starting Shortcut Filmmaking is that, as a married couple, and two very creative people, we wanted to build an opportunity to work together on something we absolutely loved. Since one of us has background in cinematography and camera skills and the technical side, and the other has background in public relations and client relations and consultative sales…it just made sense to put all of our best skills together! With so many traditional 9-5 jobs coming with such rigid processes and so much monotony, we knew we needed to create our own path that was fulfilling for both of us!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Shortcut Filmmaking, we put an emphasis on making video and content accesible to people and businesses that are just starting out and building their brand, all the way to those who have fully established clientelle and want to level-up their content. This year, we’re most excited about expanding to work with larger brands in the valley, and taking on more large-scale events (like our first wedding coming up in March!) We got to where we are today through a lot of trial and error and a lot of talking to other small business owners to see how they build their brands as well. It hasn’t been easy, by any means, but we’ve both really enjoyed putting ourselves out there and meeting so many new people along the way. One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned is to just keep trying if something doesn’t stick the way you hoped it would the first time around! There is always opportunity for growth and starting the next big project.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Boy do we have some favorites in Phoenix! We spend most of our time in the city, so you can catch us snagging the pad thai lunch special at Thai Basil Signature almost every single week. The absolute best plates in town! Next, walk next door to Sweet Crimes Candy Vault- it’s a new spot with the gooiest home made cookies and ice cream and the coolest nostalgic candies. Taking long strolls through Margaret T Hance Park, Heritage Square Park, The Arizona Center, or around the city streets to scope out the newest street art are some favorites as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to Sebastian Morales of Shortcut Filmmaking. He’s been an absolutely integral part in creating our business and thinking of creative ways to prospect potential artists, businesses, and families to collaborate with. Sebastian has worked so hard over the last six years to build his business as a solo videographer, moving from Chile to the U.S., acquiring residency and his work permit, and finally officially expanding his business along with me (his wife) this last year. He’s the epitome of putting in 100% effort and seeing the result come to fruition. As a Latino business owner, this has opened up so many opportunities to support other locally-owned Latinx businesses in Phoenix along with many other friends, clients, and collaborations.
