Meet Trellany Bodine | Wedding Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trellany Bodine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trellany, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance used to be easy until I had kids. One child was still manageable since I could count on her nap and after she went to bed to work (edit) but since having our second child work/life balance has been much more difficult. Their naps rarely matched up and I was finding myself very stressed about when I could work and had zero energy at the end of the night to edit. My husband could see it was getting to me and I couldn’t keep going at this rate if I wanted to be happy and still love my job. I began to search for a post production company that could edit some of my videos to help take the burden off my plate of filming and editing all my wedding videos. This was a huge blessing and allowed me to have a better work life balance that allowed me to thrive in my job again. We have figured out a system wear I work (edit) for a few hours on Monday and Fridays when my husband is not working in the home and then I will work (edit) one night a week as well. So far this schedule has worked out great and I am still able to be a present and happy mom to my kids during the day. I usually only take 2-3 weddings a month as well so I can also have some Saturdays to spend time with my family and not over do it. I know our lifestyle will be constantly changing as kids schedules get busier and priorities may change but my husband is very supportive in helping me achieve the work/life balance that helps us all to thrive.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love the way I film and capture the moments that the bride and groom may never see or remember. My videos are all about capturing the raw emotions and memorable moments on someones wedding day and creating a love story in their final product that will bring you to tears. I like to think my videos are timeless and a true family hierloom that their posterity will love to watch for years to come. I obviously did not start out this way, my videos used to be more of a highlight film with music over video clips. Once I saw someone else’s video of how they used the vows, ceremony, & toasts audio to tell the story I knew I had to tap into that market and make more meaningful videos. It took a lot of workshops and sitting at the computer for hours trying to think of how I would piece this persons story together. Thankfully inspiration comes much faster now.
Some lessons I have I learned along the way is to never add more stress to the brides wedding day and if anything be over the top accommodating to help where needed. I really try to get to know my brides and have a relationship past just videographer and it totally helps with my desire and willingness to create something beautiful for them. I would like the world to know about Joy Filmz is that we truly take the time to hand craft a wedding video that will tell your story.
We love to be in the thick of all the action and capture all the moments they may have missed that day. We are hard workers and have a creative eye that will capture your wedding day better than you could have imagined.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a little bias to Downtown Gilbert since I grew up there and have loved seeing it become what it is today. But I would take my friends there for Oreganos, Culinary Dropout or Postino’s then walk around and see a show at Hale Theatre. I grew up spending a lot of time on the Lake and River so if it was summer time and they were visiting we would go out on the boat at Saguaro Lake to wake surf and wake board or get paddle boards and go down the river. If it is winter when they are visiting we would go hiking in the Superstition mountains or visit the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and then do a sunset bike ride down the pathway from Riverview Park to Tempe Town Lake & grab dinner on Mill Ave. I love Sedona as well and could make a 24 hour trip out of that to see the red rock and do some hiking up there. Arizona desert is so beautiful and for someone out of town to see the Saguaro Cactus up close is pretty rad.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a big shoutout to my mom for believing in me to pursue wedding videography and helping out financially at the beginning with my camera. When I lost my “big girl” job and was worried about my future my mom was there to give me enough confidence to pursue wedding videography knowing that this work schedule and environment fit my personality & lifestyle much better. She is the biggest cheerleader you could ever ask for and I am grateful she believed in me. when I didn’t. I would also like to thank my husband Lucas for helping behind the scenes and keeping my relevant and up to date with gear and trends I need to know. He is willing to either come shoot with me if needed or stay home and be with the kids without ever complaining. As a mom you can have a lot of guilt for leaving your kids to work but having a supporting husband makes it much easier to pursue something I am passionate about and love doing. Another shoutout worth mentioning is Dave Nuttal, Parker Walbeck and Ray Roman who are all professionals that I took workshops from that helped my work go to the next level which ultimately took my business the next level. They are very talented and I am grateful I was able to learn from the best!
