We had the good fortune of connecting with Trey Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The process behind starting my own business started back in 2013. I was out of work for a year due to the fact I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I needed an escape from my ailment and that’s when I started photography. I started with just my cellphone and gained a nack for it. I started posting my photos on social media (Instagram and Facebook). It was mostly nature shots and flat lays. friends and family started to take notice and before I knew it I was getting requests for photography gigs. So I decided to buy myself a camera, A Nikon D3200 and give myself a business name Trey Lane Captures. I gained a decent clientele and was photographing weddings, family shoots, and senior pictures A couple years ago I started to join my roommate on his photography gigs, he works with airbnb owners. Together we have traveled all over the US photographing airbnbs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am forever growing in my artistic style with photography and videography weather it’s the way I view things or to the way I edit. There is always room to grow. I became a professional photographer/videographer by a lot of parctice and perseverance I can definitely say it was a long journey to get to where I am today but it was definitely worth every step. Never be afraid to fail, without failure you will never find success. I have definitely through the years learned to never under value my work, you are worth more than you think.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am from central Massachusetts, Worcester MA to be exact. Some people pronounce it Worchester but us locals just call it the Woo. We recently just got a minor league baseball stadium down the street from where I live. This is where the Woosox play, definitely a hot spot to visit. if you are a foodie the food options here are endless! There’s cool places to visit, from little consignment shops to great places to hike and photograph. Around Worcester we have Wachusett MT and reservoir as well as Purgatory chasm. 2hrs to the west is the Berkshires and to the east is Cape Cod. To the north is beautiful New Hampshire and Vermont and to the south is Connecticut and Rhode Island. I’m also an hr outside of Boston MA. Worcester is definitely conveniently placed dead smack in the middle of it all. The things to do are endless around here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely like to give recognition to my Best friend Christopher Funk @cfunk44 He has been by my side through this whole journey from fighting breast cancer to growing as photographers together.
