We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Kilmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Everyone in Double Down Productions has a very creative mindset. We all attend a school that focuses in both Performing and Visual Arts and that lets us really express our ideas and creativity. We’ve all made countless homemade films in our own lives throughout the years and as we’ve grown more, we wanted to make more professional films and projects to show off. We are all currently student filmmakers at Metropolitan Arts Institute and we learn more and more about filmmaking each and every day. We believe that movies and short films are great ways to express emotion and to tell incredible stories. We are still in the very early planning stages of our Production Studio, but we’re very eager to do exciting things in the future.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love
for our community to learn more about your work.
We are still very new to the filmmaking scene. We only have a single short film called Santiago that we submitted to the Almost Famous Film Festival (A3F) and we’re still figuring out what we should do next as a studio. We had a lot of help to get where we are today and we couldn’t be more grateful for it. However, the job is never done and we have to keep learning and working if we truly want to thrive someday. We believe that some of our biggest challenges are yet to come, but we’ll always be ready for them. If we have learned anything from this, we learned that with lots of passion and effort, anything can be possible.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to
take them around to?
From my personal experience, I would recommend finding some good hiking trails that take you to the top of a mountain and give you a beautiful view of the Arizona deserts. If you really want to see something beautiful, I would 100% recommend taking a trip to the Grand Canyon by any means necessary. Looking down at the canyon is a memory that you will never regret. If you’re looking for a place to eat or drink, I would recommend heading to a restaurant under the name of Fox Restaurant Concepts (FRC). There are FRC restaurants all over the state and they always deliver delicious food and they do it with a smile on their faces. Downtown Phoenix is very lively and great to spend a day in. There are tons of parks, museums, restaurants and events all over the city. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional
recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We have always had lots of support from our friends and family, but we want to quickly shoutout Brian Maticic, the film teacher at our school and the co-founder of Brelby Theatre Company. He has supported us numerous times and he’s taught us many tricks and techniques that we will use for years to come. We also want to thank Adam Fischer, the dad of two members on our team, Wes Fischer and Calvin Fischer. He is a videographer and the owner of Circa 79 Creative Media and he has passed on a lot of knowledge to us and will continue to support us as we grow as a studio.
