Meet Val Lopez | Esthetician/Brazilian Waxer/Intimate Skin Lightening Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Val Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Val, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The relationships you build while you gain your clientele. It’s really more than just me providing a service. I’ve made lots of friends actually as a business owner from the clientele I have built and am still building. It’s like a form of therapy while your service is being performed. You don’t just go to anyone when you’re waxing typically; you have to find your person and when you do it’s a whole different dynamic. For a lot of people, it becomes something they look forward too because it’s so much more than some smooth skin. It’s confidence that gets built, it’s relationships forming, and it’s “me time.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that I am very inclusive and service all genders and make it a completely safe space to be themselves. Many wax businesses in Az don’t offer all the services I offer to EVERYONE. It is usually dedicated to the female crowd. I also can relate to others and speak to them on a personal level all while still being professional and making their services personal to them. It was not easy at all; it still isn’t a year and a half in. I remember jumping into opening my business with only 2 weeks to let my clients at my old job know I was leaving and just hoped when I jumped that everyone would jump with me and everything would be okay. I overcame the challenges by just putting one foot in front of the other and pushing through. My kids have been a big motivation and I look at them and see strength I didn’t know I had. They have definitely been my biggest fans along with their dad. I’ve learned that not everyone is going to LOVE me, but the ones who are for me will find me. You don’t have to play small in order to make new clients and the ones that see your worth are willing to pay whatever it is. What I want the world to know is that I was a 17 year old teen mom who never thought this would be possible like ever. I didn’t have that kind of support at home growing up and I’m doing everything I can so that my kids can see that they can achieve anything they put their mind too despite what others may say or think. My brand is so much more than just me placing wax on people and removing hair. It’s personal growth, self confidence and all in all an adventure

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit which is my older sister. We would go hiking early in the morning at south mountain and just sit there and watch the view for a whole hour. Then after we would go eat at Denny’s or IHOP for a nostalgic breakfast as we had that as kids growing up. Eggs, pancakes, the whole experience. Then we would go explore an Asian grocery store I just discovered to go try food we have never even imagined trying and just experiencing new things with one another! We are both moms so we would probably wing it as we go. We both really love going to the gym and we are huge on mental health so somewhere between we would be doing that as well once a day for the whole week! We are those people who are cracking up at the gym and just making the gym out playhouse! We bring out the children in each other!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize the father of my children for supporting me financially and emotionally during the opening of my business as if I had done it myself I may have had to open later than I did when I first jumped into becoming a business owner! He has been a big part of my success and I give him his flowers for that! All while being a business owner himself and all the other parts of life that can be stressful and lots of work.
