We had the good fortune of connecting with Xochitl Avila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Xochitl, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to start my own business and give up a fixed salary and benefits from a company; It was when I understood that my growth was outside; that I could no longer grow in the company that I was and that my work had to be better valued. With a few months of savings and the support of my family, I decided to start step by step and thanks to the good recommendations of my past clients, I began to have meetings, close contracts and make my work known a little bit more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We all know that we live in a world where if there were no competition you would not grow professionally. I consider that my company, more than selling a wedding planning service, decoration rental or flower shop, sells you a complete experience for one of the best days of your life. I make sure that our services are based on one event per day; we prefer quality over quantity and we offer all our experience to our clients; either in English, Spanish or French.
Our services compared to the competition exceed expectations; we give ourselves 100%, we resolve instantly and we do not leave an event absolutely for Our client’s confort is our goal. It was not easy to get to where I am today; some days are better than others and the good days are FROM where you take the energy to continue. when you start sometimes people do not value your work or do not want to pay you what you charge, underrating your effort, but it is from these experiences that you recover and jump; the general idea is not to let go and continue on this path that has given me and my team more good than bad experiences. Along the way you learn that if there is a client who values your knowledge, effort and quality; when they find you they will not go with you because it is cheaper but because they are ready to live the experience that my services will give them.when you get to a point in your life, you want to share it with new generations and the rest of the world; the goal is to never give up, believe in yourself; this is how Point Weddings & Events started; like a dream in which 99.% did not believed in but that I did not give up on even in the worst moments; and although those moments are ups and downs as in any business they will be the driving force to continue in the market offering beautiful experiences as event curators
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Puerto Peñasco AKA Rocky Point has endless places and activities to offer in general. 4 hours away from Tucson and Phoenix; Entering the city you will find shops on the main avenue where you can buy your grosery, to continue on your way and reach the malecon and the Old Port that offers endless restaurants, bars such as “Tekila Bar”. You can relax and go to a spa or go shopping at “Mercedes” at the Malecón and get beautiful handicrafts or go to “Plaza Fabiola” in one of the main streets for handicraft sales and buy nice accessories and clothes for you and your family. then you can go to rest at your hotel, condo or Airbnb and enjoy the pool, or go sunbathing on the beach. Rocky Point has the best beaches of the Sea of Cortez and offers you an impeccable setting with the most beautiful sunsets. As a recommendation you can go to dinner at one of the best Italian restaurants like “MareBlu”, if you are looking for local food you can enjoy “Oktopus” on the boardwalk or if you want an experience with a personal chef next to you you can visit the hamburgers from “A LA BURGER ”with chef Neftalí Ponce who is recognized in Puerto Peñasco for his seasoning and as executive chef of the famous hotel brand The grand Mayan Puerto Peñasco. Your family can live experiences from going down the zip line, diving, fishing, driving rhinos and atv’s. If at night you are looking for some nightlife in the city you can start drinking wine and craft beer at “El Tapeo”, the famous tapas bar restaurant. Then you can go to “La Oficina del Mannys” this is a beach club that offers live music and more than 3 bars of drinks to enjoy O well; if yours is the club you can go to “Elixir” where there will always be a DJ playing for you. Puerto Peñasco and its famous “Calle 13” has bars and taquerias where you can end your night by dining in the “Sonora style”. Your next morning you can have breakfast in restaurants like “Lolitas”, “Kaffehouse” which is famous for its delicious waffles or “Candy Cake” with its wonderful desserts.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In life we meet many people, from some you learn more than from others and bring everything good for your personal growth. I come from a working family, who taught me that preparing and working for what you want, you achieve everything. my family is my main engine. I professionally admire Michelle Obama; I consider that she is a highly prepared woman, she made her way in a world where she was called “of men” and she has all the capacity, strength and character
