We had the good fortune of connecting with Zachary Hollander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zachary, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To me it was pretty simple: I wanted to have control over my days and what I got to do on a day to day basis. I worked as a busser/cashier for 8 years and then second jobs here and there and deciding to start my own business seemed like not only thew smartest thing to do, but also my only option at that time to really take control of my life.

What I am most proud about on my wedding side of the business is my ability to make brides and grooms feel comfortable. Very often I get reviews from them stating that I was the calm during the storm throughput their wedding day. I am very blunt throughout the wedding day and what the bets way to do things are if something goes of course and this is something that has came up from my years of experience and dealing with everything that could happen at weddings that you could imagine.
As anyone knows, the wedding industry is far from easy being in. There is a lot at stake- you are capturing someones best day in their life to date. Something they will remember forever and that goes for your work and how you were on the wedding day with them. Your impression and your work will forever live with your client. There’s been ups and downs like any business, but the way I’ve handled the downs I think has been what keeps my clients recommending me no matter what the circumstances were.
My biggest lesson i’ve learned is to be honest and upfront and the sooner you do it the better it works out.
One story I have is this, The first two years i started I was shooting a wedding and it was 115 degrees outside during the ceremony and there was very little places to go to be in the A/C. Right at the kiss during the ceremony, my A camera overheated and turned off. Luckily I had two side angles, but the main angle wasn’t captured due to the overheating. Luckily we were doing family photos at the ceremony site, so within 5 minutes of the ceremony ending and me getting my camera cooled down enough- I let the bride and groom know we need to redo the kiss. I had there family members sit back down in the aisle seats and the officiant come back and we re-did the kiss. Not only were the bride and groom happy that I let them know, instead of finding out down the line- you couldn’t;t tell the difference in the final video. Since this instance, I’ve always juts been very blunt and straight forward with the bride and groom throughout the day when a last minute decision needs to be made and I feel like it helps take pressure off them hearing it from an experience industry professional.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For me and my wife- we take out friends to Watson or Goldwater lake for a quick hike, typically grab lunch at La Planchada for a tasty cocktail, sometimes lazy G brewhouse is our go to for lunch. We also would try and take them to Sedona for some hiking and mountain biking and make the trip through Jerome to make it more scenic.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many to name, but this business wouldn’t be successful without having my amazing clients who trust me endlessly, my family for the support and anyone who recommends my business. I truly appreciate it every time.
