We had the good fortune of connecting with Zack Lizotte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zack, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was 13 or 14, I began gaining interest in video editing, specifically making montages of hockey players and other sports figures. After a few years, I began to transition from primarily making video edits to creating graphics and photo manipulation on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. At first, I didn’t envision shifting my skillset towards a business view, and I instead only made graphics for fun, but after comparing graphic design to other summer jobs and side gigs outside of school, I made the realization that business and pleasure really can correspond with each other. I began creating graphics for a few of the high school sports teams that I was apart of, as well as small businesses, and from there my audience only grew. As my business began to takeoff, I made the decision of furthering my validity as a creator by earning Photoshop, Illustrator, and Visual Design certifications from Adobe. Looking ahead, I now plan on attending college for graphic design once I graduate high school, and I hope to continue my career as a professional graphic designer.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I strive to set my designs apart from the rest through creativity and hard work. Everyday as I go about my normal day-to-day life, I generate ideas about how I can implement my surroundings into the graphics that I create. I also enjoy creating a spin on how others create graphics, making a blend of various different styles, that can be combined to create one final product. The skills that I have expanded on over time have been a direct result of hard work, and trial and error. Never will I create a graphic that has zero revisions start to finish, because flaws that I find are what help me to improve as I move from one work to the next. One thing that I want my audience to see from my designs is that with a good work ethic, you have endless possibilities in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in a rural town, theres not too much to do around me, however, only a short drive away is the best bagel shop I have been to: The Daily Bagel.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I had been provided with an immense amount of support from nearly everyone close to me, I’d like to give a specific shoutout to my Photoshop and Digital Graphic Design teacher, Mrs. Fontaine. Without the resources, help, and support that was provided for me, I would never be where I am today.
