Artists and creatives face innumerable challenges given that their career path often doesn’t come with a playbook, a steady paycheck or any form of safety net. It’s definitely not easy and so we asked a few of the artists and creatives we admire to talk to us about why they chose to pursue an artistic or creative career.

Holly Roccaforte | Painter, Sculptor, and Tattoo Artist

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be an artist. I didn’t always know what kind of artist I wanted to be, but I knew I was happiest when I was creating. When I was a kid I used to make sculptures out of the mud in my backyard and make chalk portraits on the sidewalks. When I got to high school, I took my first pottery class, and I instantly fell in love. I have always loved the arts from a very young age. When I got older and had my own place, I enjoyed moving furniture around in different configurations to see what looked the best, and or what worked the best. I had wanted to pursue an art career my first go around to college, but I didn’t think it would pay the bills. So I ended up with a business administration degree instead. however, almost all of my electives were in art. Once my family was grown and pretty much out of the house, I had some family members encourage me to go and take some Interior Design classes at our local community college. That is all it took and I knew I had to get my degree, work in the field, or start my own business. Read more>>
