We had the good fortune of connecting with Noa Arias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My mom and I were sitting and folding laundry together while isolating during the first pandemic summer. She picked up an old, tattered pair of knickers she had purchased on a business trip to Europe years ago, and started lamenting how she couldn’t find anything like these knickers – high-waist, full coverage underwear that was still sexy. We set out on a hunt to find something similar to these knickers and, when we came up short, we realized there was a real gap in the market for sexy, comfortable, full coverage undergarments. And thus, Bloomers Intimates was born.

What should our readers know about your business?
My mom and I concieved the idea for Bloomers Intimates in summer of 2020, but it took a little over a year for us to actually make it happen. Finding fabrics in the middle of a global pandemic was not easy, to say the least, and even once we found a lace manufacturer we wanted to work with, they wouldn’t give us the time of day. After months of emailing and calling, we finally got a meeting with the lace manufacturer. So persistence is key – for every 10 nos, you’ll hear one yes if you are lucky.

Serendipitously, the lace manufacturer introduced us to our amazing pattern designer. She introduced us to someone else who introduced us to our wonderful manufacturing and operations consultant. Neither of us had any fashion experience, so finding people with expertise in this area (and that we liked!) is of the utmost importance.

Building a business is definitely not easy, it’s a roller coaster. There are some awesome days and some days where you question everything you are doing. We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback from our customers, so that’s what keeps me going!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first, I would take them straight out of my town in Westchester and we would hop on a train to New York City. Then we’d head over to Hudson Yards to grab some bites at Little Spain (it’s a Spanish food market with restaurants). After that, we’d walk down to the High Line and get our steps in and take in the sites. If we still had energy to burn, I would take that friend to a Barry’s Bootcamp, before eating an indulgent meal at Dante West Village.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout out to Shaula Yemini, who is my co-founder, business partner and (most importantly!) my mom. Without her idea, motivation and business acumen, Bloomers Intimates wouldn’t exist.
